This is my first Marine army. I just started playing 40K after quitting when 4th ed came out. So I would like some input on this army list. I have always played Eldar so I am a real newb at SM army building. But I have always liked that Salamander history.
Foregefather Vulkan He'stan
SM Captain in bike.
Artificer armor and lightning claw Iron Halo
Bike Squad (5) Melta x2
Sergeant Combi Melta
3 more Bike Squads just like that.
Scout Squad (4) Sniper Rifle's and Cloaks.
Sergent Sniper Rifle.
mounted in a Land Speeder Storm. W/ Multi Melts
Dreadnought Heavy Flamer Assault Cannon
Venerable Dreadnought Twin Linked Auto Cannon and Missile launcher
Assault Squad (9) Remove Jump packs and place in a Drop Pod. (Deathwind Missile launcher)
Sergeant Lightning claw x2
Land Speeder with Multi melta.
My first list. Looking back I could drop the Ven Dread. and take annother two dreads with more shooty.
Thanks in advance.
HQ: If you are going to use Vulkan then equip your army to have as many weapons that use his ability as possible. Currently you only have 14 melta weapons but no flamers or thunderhammers. Either drop Vulkan or tool up the army according to his abilities. I'll assume you want to keep him so here we go....
Captain on bike is ok.
Troops: These squads are ok but I would drop the combi meltas for powerweapons. At such close range the enemy will charge you after your first shot and without a power weapon you are vulnerable and all those meltaguns are tied up.
The scouts are the wrong type to be transported in a speeder. Get BP/CCW scouts and a PW or PF (drop the cloaks). Their transport is only BS3 so a TL heavy flamer would go nice here and the scouts can finnish off any survivours in combat.
I would reccomend dropping one bike squad for a tac squad to take objectives. They tend to hold them better than bikes particularly in cover.
Elite: Make both dreads MM + HF. With Vulkan around it is the only design that makes sense. Drop pods are nice for them too but they can get away with footslogging.
Fast: I would drop the land speeder for a MM attack bike and add it to a bike squad. The assault marines should get their jump packs back and take a master crafted thunder hammer and a flamer or two.
Heavy: Not that keen on them but you can boulster defences for a tac squad to hide in.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
Ok I can then put Vulvan in the tac squad. Thats why I went with the assualy Squad like that. I have no place for him.
All good ideas. I look forward to more.
