Listen up maggots!
I've been looking into picking up IG ever since I picked up the Ciaphas Cain books, and the new Codex offers ==Me== new inspiration. However, I wasn't soo keen on another horde army after Orks and Skaven, but now I don't think that's going to be a problem.
Command Squad-4 meltaguns, Master of the Fleet, Chimera
Battle Psykers-Mentor, 10 Psykers, Chimera
3 Veteran Squads with 3 meltaguns, Chimeras

This one's all about the vehicles. 5 Chimeras, a Banewolf, 2 Hydras, and 2 Russes. That's 8 AV12 tanks and 2 AV14 tanks. The Vets and Command Squad mount up and drive around nuking vehicles. I only get 2 orders, but there's nothing I really want beyond Fire on My Position and Bring it Down. I've got a super flamer, 2 eradicator templates, 4 plasma cannons, Hydras to nuke eldar vehicles, and a ton of multi-lasers/heavy bolters.
I'm not sure how sound it is to have Guardsmen cruising around the board firing meltaguns out of a Chimera's tophatch as basically the basis for your entire list. To use a meltagun, the Chimera has to be 12" away from the enemy unit, or less. If they're that close, they're in charge range. If they're in charge range, unless you wipe all the enemy units, your Chimeras get charged and hit on their rear armor of 10. Once the Chimeras are popped, its easy to kill 30 guardsmen, vets or not. ESPECIALLY easy when they closed to assault range and did half the work for you.
Its an interesting list, and by all means give it a shot. I'm just skeptical of its efficacy.
"I would listen to Sokhar. The man's a genius. Listen."~Lord Yossanrion"Thanks, Sokhar. There was some legitimately good advice in between the low-grade profanity, blaspheming and veiled insults."~Quick"Well thought, intelligently put, with a hint of sarcastic bastard!"~Diggum's Hammer
The plan is to have nothing left after shooting. Meltas vaporize tanks easily enough, while the Eradicators and Banewolf ruin infantry units. The Guardsmen provide the anti-tank, the vehicles do the real heavy lifting.
If a Chimera is assaulted, they moved last turn so it's a 4+ to hit at worst and if it gets popped, boo hoo. I have 3 more and the enemy was so kind to bunch themselves up for the Banewolf/Eradicator.
*opens mouth to speak*
*realises everything I wanted to say has been said*
Marrius pretty much said it all really, even if you do get lucky with hits, theres just too many models out there in swarm armies, it's just not feasable if you know your going to be playing said armies. However, playing something like marines or chaos, you *should* be cackling by the end of the game, having blown apart their elite troops like they're used to blowing apart us. It's all just a matter of destroying things before they can destroy you, and then mopping up.
Yeh, I mumble, thanks for noticing.

How do you figure? Chimeras have 2 big guns each, Psykers have the doom template, Eradicators have 3 templates apiece, Banewolf has 2 flame templates, plus whatever lasguns.
I was thinking of swapping 1 melta in each Vet squad for a heavy flamer though, just a little extra insurance against hordes.
I'd like to see that army that can take them all out in 1 turn, AV12 with cover is a tough nut to crack, let alone AV14 in cover.
Plus you are hoping that your chimeras live long enough to do any damage but do you think that your opponent no matter what army they play will let you just shoot away at them? No, their going to take them out right away. And your dealing with guardsmen who have a BS of 3. Your hoping that a simple chimera with its full six shots can do some really hurtful damage to an opponents troops? You would be lucky to kill six with one chimera. They probably have cover too and most opponents will still get armour saves from the multi laser. I will give you credit on the banewolf but the likely hood of making it far is quite slim. The Eradicator will last a while I will give you that but its going to be shot at like no other.
Before anything is certain you have to field test your army.
PS I did read that your not keen on doing another horde army well sir you better stop playing guard then because we are a horde army.
Who says IG have to be a horde army? Armored Company and old school Grenadier forces would like to disagree.
BS3 is something I'm very excited about, coming from Orks, and volume of fire is huge here. 6 shots coming your way from 5 Chimeras is a lot of dakka. The Eradicators do the heavy lifting of real anti-infantry, but all that shooting is going to put a dent in something.
It's not too hard to get cover when you have so many vehicles. There's normal terrain, and then you've got your own vehicles to provide cover. Drive one up, smoke and hide the rest behind. You sacrifice one's shooting in exchange for cover all around. If I had the points I'd stick camo netting on everything for the 3+ cover choo-choo train of doom. And the Chimeras really are sacrificial, I've got 4 full of meltas for redundancy purposes, and if they shoot them that's less fire going to the Eradicators, Bane Wolf, and Hydras.
With regards to first turn, I know exactly who's going first 5/6 of the time. I deploy second, I'm in cover and ready to move out. I go first, I still deploy with good protection just in case. You'll have 1 turn before I've got meltas all up in your face toasting your vehicles. Cover means nothing to the Eradicators and Bane Wolf, so any anti-tank units (Lootas, Heavy Weapon Teams, and so on) are dead. Any light vehicles in cover or skimmers moving fast meet the Hydras.
I've got ==My== first game up against bugs tomorrow, so we'll see how it fares.
And seriously dude, ease up, we're disagreeing over the internet. Not really life or death.
