Personally I think the easiest way to knock down the number of points is simple. Drop every single power weapon. That's 110 points right there.

I'm having a great deal of difficulty figuring out what you're trying to do with the CCS. It's got a tank hunting weapon, an anti-troop weapon, and a couple of ablative wounds. Are you planning to flame orcs, bounce over to the and melta that, followed by charging and beating up grots in combat? (Realistically, that's all you're going to beat up with any reasonable chance of success.) CCS is frankly better used than as countercharge. If you want to use it for tank-hunting, put it in a transport and give it another melta or two. If you want to use it as an anchor for your troops, drop most of the weapons, leave the banner, and call it good. Maybe give them a heavy weapon to go along with it.

My personal choice: CCS, banner, autocannon, camo cloaks => 105

Ratlings are pretty much great bang for your buck. A bigger squad might help more, but that's at least enough so you have to lose two of them before they take a break test. Might save them a bit longer, might not. Not a stormtrooper fan, personally. I can see how they'd be useful, I can see the arguments for them. I don't like them. If they work for you though, great. I'd swap one of the weapons though. If you're using them as anti-troop, drop the grenade launcher for another flamer. If you're using them for anti-vehicle, go with melta guns. Anti-MEQ, plasma might be good too. But don't mix weapons generally. Give them a job, let them do it. Frankly, a grenade launcher is iffy on specialist troops like that anyway.

If you must keep the bolt pistol, fine. I don't think it's worth the 2 points. Same advice as CCS for this command squad. Give them a heavy weapon and use them for orders, or give them a few flamers and a chimera and go burn something down. Once again though, decide what they're doing. Right now, it doesn't look like they'd do much of anything. The infantry squads are fine, once again; i feel power weapons are wasted. Go with the voxes if you like, if you're counting on orders enough they might do well for you. I hate that voxes don't help order ranges. That alone is enough to basically make me boycott them.

You've got me even more confused with the veterans. You're paying 105 points for a 10 wound BS 4 lascannon that can reroll its order test. The veteran squad's major advantage is how MANY special weapons it can take. Use them. Whether meltas, plasma, or even just piling on wounds with flamers. Use them for what they're good for.

Heavy support: Once again, mixing roles. The battle tank has an anti-tank weapon, and a couple of anti-infantry weapons, plus the battlecannon. Drop the lascannons to heavy bolters. Overall, the extra shots will do more for you. General rule for imperial guard is to let your vehicles kill their troops, and your troops to kill their vehicles (this is a generalization, not a hard and fast rule) The demolisher is tried and true, and devastating. It can do quite well in that format. I suggest an alternative. Plasma cannons on the standard russes (since their main gun has more range) and multi-meltas on the demolisher. Adding a couple of AP 1 melta weapons to a tank that already has a strength 10 blast saves you 10 points, and it basically at that point broadcasts a 24 inch 'YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE NEAR ME' field. But I haven't had a chance to test that setup yet. That's merely a guess. Basilisk is still a nasty toy. The minimum range of the indirect fire is a bit worrying, but if necessary, just step out into the open and say hi.

So let's see...overall, I've tossed in enough to save up to about 150 points, and suggested a few places to spend some more. Mainly it's just a question of focus and deciding roles.

Thanks, the reasons for the CCS was probably a fit of madness, it was, I agree, aterrible mistake for a veteran player of Guard. However, the standard bearer model I have converted is ], according to the local manager, far too pretty not to use. The veteran squad special weapon issue was a mistake I hadn't the time to rectify. The power weapons are there because I have some beautifully converted award-winning sergeants and leaders in my collection, it was those I referred to at the start, and also so that any combined platoons can hold off a foe in combat for a while without breaking and dying in one go. I may remove them later. I wanted the storm troopers to kill most stuff but in retrospect I was wrong to mix roles. They din't kill all that much in the game I played, so I'll replace the weapons with more flamers, since my opponents at the local GW and gaming club generally dislike using tanks in their tightly-themed armies, and the amount of eldar one opponent fields is scary. I will get rid of the bolt pistol, I was dubious of its use too. On the Basilisk, it always now has the same minimum range of 36" so on our standard size boards now I won't use it.

    Here is the new list:

    CCS....................170
