    I like Pie 2000

I've always liked the idea of siege warfare. Is this siege army viable? Competitive even? This army is theoretical right now, as the only vehicles here that I have are the basilisks and chimera, but it's something that I would like to try out (if I can find something to proxy the valks).

Pretty fun looking army, regardless of competitiveness! Although, when it does come to the crunch, I'm not sure that you have enough scoring units there, at 2000 points. If playing for lots of objectives, you might be in trouble taking and holding enough for a win.

As for the Mortars, I'm in two minds about that. If you roll lots of hits, you'll be better off, but two scatters for the one multiple barrage and you could be up to, what, 33" off target (if you roll all 6's)with the artillery barrage! That's one hell of a scatter!

Other than that, as I said - yeah, looks fun! You'd have a bit of trouble against a ravenwing army though, methinks...

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.

What do you think if I traded, let's say, 1 medusa, 1 basilisk + 3 heavy bolters from the valks for 1 colossus + 2 griffons? Then my heavy would look like this:

    2x Medusas + 1x Griffon - 405
    2x Basilisks - 250
    2x Colossus + 1x Griffon - 265

I'm thinking about doing this to give my barrages a little more accuracy.

I know I'm lacking in troops, which is why I plan to outflank my valks to hopefully prolong the lives of my troops. The later they come the better (but not too late I hope).

Yeah, I think I'll have problems not just with ravenwing, but fast eldar, mechanized dark eldar, and other fast armies. Which is why I got the Inq + Emperor's Tarot. Hopefully, I can win initiative with him and get 1 free shot at them before they come knocking on my doors.

I wouldn't use Bassies, the 36" minimum range hurts them a lot.

Team up your expensive artillery pieces with Griffons to make them more accurate, it's cheap and blasty.

Deck the Vets out to pop tanks and run Vendettas. You'll lose pie plates, but will be able to actually hurt vehicles.

Add mortars with the MoO, for obvious reasons.

If you fire the Basilisk indirectly (which requires los) then you ignore it's minimum range profile, and since intervening models grant cover the basilisks should be fine shooting directly especially if you give their squadron the camo netting.

Also I don't see why everyone thinks the Mortar + MoO trick works, since it clearly states that the MoO shot must scatter at least 2d6...

I'd assume your using the chimeras as protection only and will just park them in the back and keep them mostly stationary?

Right, and firing directly means your enemy can see you, which defeats the purpose of running artillery tanks in the first place.

The MoO+mortar is tricky, by RAW it's a multiple salvo, but it could go either way with a FAQ.

Chimera is protection, and with a heavy flamer can threaten infantry that get too close.

The purpose is loads of big scary templates, hence the title of the thread.

Not so much lets scatter my awesome death-template into oblivion, plus it makes basilisks a bit more useful since you can direct under it's minimum range. In most circumstances in the new and improved version of coverhammer, there is almost always an intervening model or bit of terrain that will confer a cover save between shooter and target at long ranges, so on average the basilisk should be relatively safe with a 4+ from either random cover somewhere along the TLoS, or intervening guardsmen obscuring at least 50% of the chimera chassis (which isn't hard to do at all, just watch any treadhead game).

if you still need help poping tanks then you could get bastion breachers for the medusas. you still keep the ability to use pie plates but youd gain 12" range, and itd be like a railgun hit with an extra d6 for penetraion roll. plus it small blast so unless you roll like a 7 or more you shouldnt scatter to badly. you might even scatter on to the back to ensure a kill lol. id maybe drop the bassies and see about getting an executioner with plasma sponsons cause who doesnt like 5 plasma templates? it probably might kill more then 1 pie plate to

The only thing that confused me is why two HQ's? is it for the extra mortar?
We who have seen war will never stop seeing it....In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams....

It's for the extra Master of Ordnance, though I'm thinking about dropping it for something else.
