This is my first list since the new IG codex and the new 5th edition of the game, so I am looking for comments and advices!
Power sword, Regimental standard, Medi-pack, Vox-caster.
Chimera with Heavy stubber and camo-netting
Infantry squad alpha
Grenade launcher, vox-caster
Infantry squad beta
Grenade launcher, vox-caster
Infantry squad gamma
Grenade launcher, vox-caster
Heavy weapons squad
Chimera with heavy stubber and extra armour
Leman Russ Battle tank
This bring this list to 830 points. I want to fit some autocannons in this, but I don't know if I should form a new HWS or add then to my infantry platoon instead.
Secondly, I am still wondering what options I should give to my LRBT. Plasma cannon seems to be a good option, but the range is bugging me.
I will still be short some 100pts after those choice anyway.
And I need some rules clarification : Can HWS fire their lasguns when they move?
I too am fairly new with the new codex and being a casual player up til recently, but I'd be happy to give some insight of my own.
HQ: Unless you like the fluff, having a power weapon on your Company Commander seems a little random, perhaps, and a little underpowered. I've playtested power fists and power weapons on my company/platoon commanders to little success.
Troops: I like Grenade Launchers, personally, although some would say use Plasma Guns or Melta Guns instead. I'd put heavy weapons in your each of your infantry squads. From what I've heard/seen/used, Autocannons are the top choice by far, although Lascannons can work too for a bit more points if you feel like you're lacking anti-tank.
Vets with 3x meltaguns and a Chimera seems fun and potentially effective with 3 Str 8 AP 1 shots on a 3+ to hit, although I myself haven't tried that out.
Leman Russ is always a solid choice. I don't entirely understand what you mean about the range on the plasma cannon, though, so perhaps a little clarification is in order. (Heavy bolters also shoot 36".)
Again, I'm sort of a newbie myself, but the list looks pretty similar to mine (I'll post my first 1,000 pt. list after this) and I think you're on the right track. There are a lot of experienced and friendly people here that have been very helpful!
Oh, and my understanding is that HWS could move and shoot their lasguns since it appears on their armory list, although I'd be willing to hear a more "official" source on the matter than me
Hi Theorycraft! Thank for the quick answer! and rep for you!
Right now my company commander already got a power sword glue on him, so I'll stick with it for the moment.
About my LRBT, the battle cannon got a maximun range of 72" and the plasma cannon 36" like you said. I just seems wierd to mix those two weapons together. Plasma cannon are expensive to field and I am afraid they won't have the chance to fire often.
But this could only be me. I didn't play 40K for 1 year and I think I just don't remember how a game really goes.
And to you as well!
If you can get the Power Sword to work for you (and considering you're already created the model), then more power (no pun intended) to you. I was just saying from personal experience how they (power weapons/fists) hadn't worked well for me; I played three games over the weekend and they didn't do much of anything, EXCEPT when I get incredibly lucky rolls and killed an Emperor's Champion with my power fist-ed Company Commander, so... it can work
I wouldn't worry about the 36" range on the plasma cannons as much as the cost. Heavy bolter sponsons, on the other hand, are a pretty cheap and effective choice for LRBT's to consider. Wounding MEq's on 3+'s and GEq's on a 2+ without an armor save is always solid for relatively little points. Now with the Lumbering Behemoth special ability, Leman Russes can dish out a TON of firepower for less than 200 points. Just ask my friend's assault marine squad which went from 10-ish models down to 2 models in one round of shooting from a LRBT due to a Battle Cannon, Lascannon, and Heavy Bolter sponsons (and the squad would have been wiped out completely had I not had atrocious to-wound rolls with my Battle Cannon).
I'm just getting back into things myself so I'd be happy to share more insight with you when I get more game experiences in. Good luck!
While reading your last reply, I remebered why I was also thinking about the plasma cannon!
Plasma cannons are blast weapon. So does this mean, I don't have to roll to hit, I just need to scatter the shot minus the shooter BS? Same for the battle cannon on the LRBT?
Not having to roll to hit with low BS seems appealing to me!
Theorycraft pretty much hit all the points I was looking to make.
Another Vet squad with meltas, autocannons in your infantry, and some re-jigging of your command squad (if you're riding in a Chimera, medipack isn't needed, and the power weapon can count as a normal ccw if points are tight).
You can lose the camo netting and extra armor too, they're rather expensive for not much utility.
Otherwise, looks like a solid concept.

Troops: Why no heavy weapons inside the Infantry Squads? If you're looking to add Autocannons, you can get them for 5pts apiece here. HWS are too vulnerable in my opinion, as they suffer instant-death from S6 weaponry. Why is the PCS bare? You could also save yourself 25 pts by dropping the Vox network.
Heavy: All good.
