2000 points, input please as I'm new to the game

I'm fairly new to the game and this is the army I'm working to build. First I'll give the list, then kinda give my ideas on it. I would very much appreciate some feedback from more experience players though.

Like I said, I would love feedback on it.

I normally drop the tactical squad pod in last (for objectives and such). I use the scout bikes to infiltrate and scout and pinpoint where I want the initial drop wave to land. I then have the captain and other two biker squads as troops. One is anti-tank, one is anti-infantry. I use the whirlwind to hide and shoot at swarms or clusters. The predator I'm not sure on, so far I've used it to park on objectives. The terminator and librarian deep strike in together.

Please don't list everything each unit can have. The simplest thing to do is just give us the unit name, # of models, purchased upgrades and their number, transports, and points total.

It's very cluttered and hard to read as it is now.

that looks better, don't bother listing standard basic equipment, it wastes space and time, just like army builder

dump the bolter, dump the plasma pistol, both useless when on a bike with hellfire shells really, get a power sword at least, just keep the Bolt pistol to get the extra attack

Are you saying army builder itself is a waste of time and space? I find it very quick and easy to play around with my army list within the points allowed using the software.

As far as the bolter and plasma pistol on my HQ, I'll take that into consideration and change his gear out for at least a power weapon, and adjust it in main post.

precisely, I find a calculator and piece of paper much quicker, and cheaper since allot of builders require you pay for the stupid things, and of course the ink for printing the list out

ahh, well the price isn't such an issue. I have 3 valid copies of army builder left over from when I owned a game shop. As far as the printing, I do prefer to write my army out on index cards rather than print what army builder gives me.

I give each unit it's own index card, I like this when playing as it's not as easy to forgot who has done what each turn. When using vassal though, I generally just leave army builder open.

Back onto the topic of the original post though, does this list look like it's decent enough to stand up in a 2000 pt tourney?

So, this is a mixed drop pod bike army eh? Yeah that sounds reasonable. However, the army has to much focus in the elites section.

    1 Space Marine Librarian
...in Terminator Armour; Epistolary; Smite; The Avenger
I recommend you remove this guy. He is very expensive and so are the terminators. They will arrive to the fight late and not be all that useful once you get there. Terminators for the points are fragile. This will leave you a lot of points to flush out the rest of the army.

    1 Space Marine Captain
Bolt Pistol(x1); Power Sword (x1); Hellfire Rounds; Melta Bombs; Artificer Armour; Space Marine Bike
Ok, never select powerswords on any HQ. A lightening claw will kill more Toughness 3, 4 and 5 models, even though it has one less attack. But I would recommend a Relic blade.

I don't see the hell fire rounds being that useful, high toughness targets almost always have a good armor save. Consider a combi plasma instead.

Lose the melta bombs, your not going to kill a landraider or monolith in assault, and your not going to hit a dreadnought with a melta bomb either. Everything else a squad of krak grenades should be more than enough to kill the tank.

    9 Tactical Squad
    Bolt Pistol (x9); Bolter (x7); Flamer; Multi-Melta
    1 Sergeant
    Teleport Homer; Chainsword; Combi-Meltagun
    1 Drop Pod, Storm Bolter
Now you can focus your army, remove the teleport homer. As a note, a locator beacon on the drop pod works with terminators, and would be cheaper than the homer. Devote these guys to killing infantry (except the multi melta) Take a combi flamer instead of melta.

    4 Space Marine Bike Squad
    Bolt Pistol (x2); Flamer (x2)
    1 Sergeant
    Melta Bombs; Combi-Flamer
Not a good use of bikes. Drop pods can focus on infantry, bikes are already good against light infantry and could be very good against heavy tanks. Switch to melta guns. Lose the melta bombs.

Add in attack bike with multi melta. Remove one normal bike.

    4 Space Marine Bike Squad
    Bolt Pistol (x2); Meltagun (x2)
    1 Sergeant
    Melta Bombs; Combi-Meltagun
Lose the melta bombs. Add in attack bike with multi melta. Remove one normal bike.

    1 Land Speeder Squadron
Heavy Bolter (x1); Typhoon Missile Launcher (x1)
Many people say these are good, never used one, but I really doubt this unit is worth the points. Consider removing this. I used to use landspeeder a lot in 4th edition, I really don't see this being a good choice for you, especially not in this army.

    2 Scout Bike Squad
    Bolt Pistol; Shotgun
    1 Sergeant
    Shotgun; Locator Beacon; Plasma Pistol
You don't need a guide unit for drop pods, be fearless, drop them to one flank and trust them to land well. Just stay at least 10 inches from any board edge (12 if you want to be extra safe)

    1 Predator
Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Pintle-mounted Storm Bolter; Twin Linked Lascannon; Heavy Bolter
Downgrade the lascannon to an auto cannon, this is a good infantry hunter, but a bad tank hunter.

    1 Whirlwind
Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Whirlwind Multiple Missile Launcher
Switch this to a second predator.

    4 Terminator Squad
Power Fist (x4); Storm Bolter (x4)
    1 Sergeant
    Power Sword; Storm Bolter
    Remove this.

    5 Sternguard Veteran Squad
Bolt Pistol (x5); Bolter (x5); Special Issue Ammunition
    1 Sergeant
Bolt Pistol; Bolter; Special Issue Ammunition
    1 Drop Pod, Storm Bolter
Take a full squad, take a lightening claw or powerfist so that they can fight there way out of assault.

    1 Venerable Dreadnought
Dreadnought CCW; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Extra Armor; Heavy Flamer; Twin Linked Lascannon
    1 Drop Pod, Locator Beacon
Pick a mission, are you drop podding this, or using it for long range support? Down grade no matter what you do, Venerable is not worth the points. If your drop podding it, take a multi melta or assault cannon. I would not use this as a long range support vehicle, following my upgrade suggestions, another aupport vehicle would not be useful.

    ----------------------------------------------

You might want to consider taking a really decked out command squad to go with your HQ. I haven't tested it yet, but it does seem like it could work a lot like a squad of nob bikers.

I often advocate for sniper scouts to be used to hold the home objective, in the 1/3 of missions you'll need to do this in.

As it turns out, both those units are detailed in the list I originaly posted as an example of readable army lists.

    Good Hunting,
Bike armies are very hard to use, but can be very rewarding, bikes can handle anything, but won't tolerate any mistakes on your part. Drop pods are easy to use, and can crush enemy units with ease.
