Listen up maggots!
I've got a tourney coming up and I figured I'd start churning out some lists for it. I've got 3, 1 is full mech, 1 is mixed mech with Valks, and the last is infantry heavy. All 1850 points.
CCS-3 meltas, Fleet Officer, Chimera
2x full PBS with Chimera
3x Vet squads with 3 meltas, Chimeras
2 Devil Dogs with smoke and heavy flamer
2 Demolishers with plasma sponsons
So, this is very much an in your face style list. I've got the PBS and Hydras for longer ranges, Demolishers and Dogs around 24", and the melta Vets and CCS up close. Every vehicle has a heavy flamer in case hordes come a-calling.
CCS-2 meltas, Astro, Chimera
2x full PBS in Chimeras
3x Vets with 3 meltas, Chimeras
2x allied ISTs, 5 men and 2 meltas
2 Valkyries with missile pods
2 Medusas with bastion breachers
Similar to the first, but with outflanking Valks to catch baddies off guard. Medusas are a bit softer than Demolishers, but they put the hurt on tanks a lot more and the extra 4 pie plates should help against infantry. Plus Marbo is awesome
CCS-Creed, Regimental Standard, Bodyguard, MoO, Astro, Camo Cloaks
allied Inquisitor with 2 mystics
2x PCS-2 flamers
6x infantry-autocannon and grenade launcher
4x HWS-3 lascannons
2x ISTs-5 men, 2 meltas
2 Valkyries with missile pods
Medusa with bastion breacher shells
Totally different here, with tons of boots on the ground. The HWS sit in range of the Commissar Lord and will provide a solid fire base. They can't tangle with Land Raiders without devoting all their fire, but that's why I have meltas and a Medusa outflanking. I was thinking of trading up to a Manticore, but I'm not sure where to get points. Creed is the obvious key here, but with the bodyguard, 3+ cover and hiding he should do just fine.
So, that's what I've cooked up so far, what do you think?
Looks like list one is the strongest. everything runs pretty quick. But with all that on the field, turn one, seems to be a little cramped. without knowing the dimensions of your field I'd worry about maintaining fields of fire.
List two looks really fun to play even out of tournament. Are all of the vehichles given hull flamers like in list one? I'd love to see any necrons you fight against just have their leadership slapped around.
What is the advantage of the Inquisitorial storm troopers over Guard troopers?
I like List one the best. My only concern is that it may be a little light on scoring units when faced with 1850 points of opposition gunning for them.
I would drop a Psyker unit and use the points for a 25 man platoon with AC/GL in the squads and a GL or mortar in the PCS. This platoon could deploy in cover claiming home objectives while your mechanised units take the fight to the enemy.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
I pick ISTs because they are cheaper. 5 with 2 meltas is only 70 points and do just that one job, hopping on a ride and blasting a tank.
The first list is a bit light on scoring units, but I generally don't see much point to spamming them. I can protect them fairly well by simply not rushing out or wiping the enemy.
List#1: A strong list that seems more like your style of play. The thing I'd probably hate the most in that list is the two PBS. They are just an annoying thing to go up against.
List#2: Im not a big fan of Marbo. There I said it. I just think too many things can go wrong with him when he first comes into play. The Medusa I found to be a wonderful tank. You would think with its weaker armour that it be gone quickly but I always found that it can stay through most of the game unscathed.
List#3: Wow! Your actually having HWS in the list. You shock me ==Me==.
