Ever since converting my own Master of the Forge on bike with conversion beamer i've wanted to try a 4+ dreadnought list. I haven't acquired all the models yet but i'm well on my way. I also like bikes and assault marines so Kor'sarro Khan was a natural fit giving outflank to my assault marines and letting me have bike squads as troop choices.
Master of the Forge
-2 hunter-killer missiles
-2 Heavy flamers
-2 hunter-killer missiles
-Twin-linked Heavy flamer
-6 assault marines including sergeant
-sergeant has lightning claws
-5 assault marines including sergeant
-sergeant has power sword
I want to use the dreadnoughts to keep the opponents army at bay while the bike squads boost up the board/prepare to outflank with the assault squads. I would just like to ask a couple of questions about this list.
If bike squads are taking as troops choices, do they count as scoring units?
Are units that outflank able to assault in the turn that they do so?
Feedback and help is appreciated. I also have plans to do an expanded version of this with 6 dreadnought for an Apoc game. Thanks.
I dont see the point of a v.dreader with 2 heavy flamers and extra armour in a drop pod. When you got get a iron clad with 2 heavy flamers with extra armour for free and a drop pod for 40 points cheaper.
I run a list that involes 6 dreaders 3 v.dreaders with assault cannons/Plasma cannons and heavy flamers and 3 drop poding iron clads all with 2 heavy flamers each. Only i back my dreadnoughts up with landspeeders instead of assault marines. Ill have 3 landspeeders all with 2 multi meltas each to take out tanks. And leave my dreadnoughts to crush infantry and anything else while having 4 squads of 5 man scouts running round claiming objectives. Or if im playing a higher points match i have 3 rhinos with 3 tactical quads and shield my v.dreaders with the rhinos as i move them towards the enemy.

I really only want the venerable due to the fact that they look really cool and i'll magnetise it anyway so i'll be able to re-purpose it if I want to. I am more interested to see whether the 13 av on the ironclad is better than the re-roll on the damage table that the venerable gets. Also, ironclads can't take a twin-linked heavy flamer and I can't wait to see the face my Imperial Guard friend gets when I say, 'Oh look at all those that didn't wound, guess i'll have to re-roll those.' But I do see your point that the ironclad is definately cheaper and could allow me for an extra bike or couple of assault marines if I took that instead.
Yeah good point the re-roll on a venerable has saved me many a time, from a destroyed dreadnought to a crew shaken dreadnought is amazing.
I think its best to either give them assault cannons because 4 strength 6 shots rending hitting on 2+ is pretty awesome.
You make a great point with the assault cannon and it's AP 4 just like the heavy flamer is. I'll consider that and might swap between play tests with them once I have the army up and running.
