    1500 salamanders ( effective list )

I tested this list a couple of times and i find it verry effective. I dropped the transports on my tacticals because of the fact it never did what it suposed to do.( I used drop pods ) now i got more points free for mobile anti tank ( attack bikes and speeder ) because i found a multimelta in a tactical squad never usefull. It is a verry shooty list with only the termies and vulkan with land raider as counterattack and CC specialist. Good against nobb bikers and deamons etc....

    HQ

    Vulkan 190pts

    TROOPS

    10 x tactical marines ( sgt with boltgun, flamer , plasmacannon ) 175pts

Nice list. It looks effective. I honestly don't think there's anything I can comment on outside of no powerfists, but I'm always going to advocate those.

Only thing I'd worry about is low number of scoring units, but it's Marines so that happens. Getting your Troops where they need to be in time might not always be convenient to let them shoot enough.

The Land Raider hammer blow is always fun though.

I know that the loss of powerfists in the tactical squads can be a loss sometimes in CC but it gives me a extra attack bike. And yes 2 tactical squads are maybe not enough but tacticals cost points where you can put them in other better units. In my eyes the problem of space marines in 5th ED, my friend play chaos and he can deploy troops that we space marines only can dream about it. In my eyes the equivalent of our elite choices.

Yeah basic Marines have turned me off in their new Codex, they're just so expensive and every army can easily kill a few squads of MEQs. The only way to protect them is to have a lot of them, but than you don't have anything else.

I agree with a thread I read a day ago where Drop Pods were the best way to employ Marines in 5th Ed. Not everyone can play that way but it makes things a bit easier.

I also can swap the land speeder for 2 drop pods for the tacticals but the only problem I can see is that I dont have the firepower from turn one but from turn 2 or 3. I will have more mobility but i would have a drawback in firepower in the beginning. What do you think.

Pods are good if you have a lot of Pods. In an army like you that isn't a pure drop list, I'd run Rhinos. That way you have the option of your Marines when you need them, and Rhinos have more Tactical options than a Pod, screening, denying things etc.

That way your whole army is mechanized in some form, except the Sternguard. Sternguard are good in a Pod though, especially if you can get a Beacon so they don't scatter.

You should be fine against MEQs without Tactical Heavy Weapons, you can overwhelm them with your Rapid Fire and other high shot weapons. Maybe find the room for a Powerfist if you Rhino them up, lots of fast CC threats.

I would drop the sternguard for 10 Tac marines in a drop pod. 10 regular marines fire better than 5 sternguard and they certainly take damage better and count as another scoring unit.

to pay for this drop a pred and use the other points to upgrade the remaining pred to AC+2LC.

    I like this list

    I like this list,

I have been running six tactical squads recently and having plenty of fun doing it too. You learn a lot about how to use your different choices when you are stuck with them. You have a good mix here and you are certainly putting Vulkan's special rules to good use.

At what stage is this army? Conceptual? Purchased? Assembled? Painted? Tried and tested?

Let us know! It's more fun when something is actually battling it out somewhere out there in the void...

I have everything from this armylist except the land speeder this is the new idea in the list. For those 70points i run 2 drop pods for the tacticals currently. But I am thinking what would be better atm, 2 dropods for tactical or the land speeder or maybe one rhino and droppod for tacticals. I also have 10 tacticals in reserve so I can swap the sternguard for a extra tactical squad. I have played with kind of this list often against chaos and it worked well for me.
