Hi there I'm newish to the Warhammer 40k hobby and i was looking for comments on my army so far and suggestions on what to get next. The two armies i normally fight are a Green tide of orcs and an eldar army with wraith guard and wraith lords, both like my army are in the building stages and we were thinking of going up to 1,500pt armies, maybe bigger 1,500pts is our goal size for now.Well here is my army so far...
Captain w/power sword and boltgun 115pts
Tactical squad- w/ missile launcher and flamer Sgt. has chainsword and pistol 170pt
Scout squad- 4 w/snipers, 1 w/missile launcher 85pts
Terminator squad- 4 w/ powerfists and stormbolters Sgt. w/power sword
Dreadnought - w/multi-melta 105pts
Predator- w/heavybolters 85pts
Its mostly what i got from the Assault on Black Reach box set. Any feedback on what I should change and what i should get next is greatly appreciate. Thought I'd get some advice before i bought any thing else. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out.
Powerfist here - very handy for when you get charged by Wraithguard/Lords, and for insta-killing orc characters. Plus, I'd get yourself a Razorback (that can be magnetised to swap to a Rhino should you need one)Tactical squad- w/ missile launcher and flamer Sgt. has chainsword and pistol 170ptCamo cloaks are a really boon for scouts.Scout squad- 4 w/snipers, 1 w/missile launcher 85ptsYou could really do with either an Assault Cannon or Cyclone Missile Launcher in here.Terminator squad- 4 w/ powerfists and stormbolters Sgt. w/power swordGood, but could do with a drop pod due to it's shorter range (it doesn't have to pod in superclose, but if you can save a turn or two walking it's a real blessing)Dreadnought - w/multi-melta 105ptsGood.Predator- w/heavybolters 85pts
To get up to 1000 I'd add the Razorback, Powerfist, Camo Cloaks and Terminator Heavy Weapon as listed above. That should come to 110, leaving you 130 - which could get a Vindicator, and leave a few points for Extra Armour on the Razorback.
As for another 500 points, I'd look at adding a bit more antitank punch, and another Tactical Squad (you might want to swap the scouts out if you find you've more than enough troops). An extra T-Squad will come to 235ish including transport, the other points could get you a Land Raider - I'd go with the lascannon version if you don't want to magnetise it.
If you want a power fist for your tactical squad ask around at your gw or alternativley buy a devestator one from bitz box(just type that into google) which will cost £2.50 including postage. Then jus snip of the army and glue on the power fist. I'm really bad at that sort of thing and even on my model the conversion isn't noticable. If I were you I would also convert the storm bolter on the dread to a flamer/heavy flamer and give it a drop pod. Just my 2 cents
Thanks for the the help Reality, the scouts do have camo cloaks i just forgot they did when i did the list. I'd been looking at a razorback as my next thing to add to the army just didn't know if it was a good idea. The vindicator seems like a good idea ,but would a Whirlwind do just as good?
As for the power fist Simple i thought I'd just snip one off my termies and then put an Assault Cannon in its place, of course i still need to find an assault cannon to put on him. Changing the stormbolter to a flamer seem like a decent idea seeing as the dreads going to be up close, course i also need to find one of those(stupid black reach doesn't give you anything extra) and giving it a drop pod gives me an excuse to build a drop pod i really wanted to make one just didn't want to make it for no reason.
Thanks for the help.
If you know your playing a horde army like orks (as i do usualy) or nids, heavy flamer on the dreadnough in a drop pod is priceless. Very often my drop pods land very close to there target destination and the heavy flamer just wipes them out. Espcially if the stormbolter from drop pod fires aswell. Also if your clever enough to hide it from units that cant harm it.. even though you cant assault the turn you land the next turn you can just move fire again and then charge the unit of boys/stealers that you didnt quite manage to kill off before
