Last week I put together, and posted a friendly 1750 list that I was able to put to use against my brothers Eldar army. In that list I was running dual Vindicators. After playing three games against my brother, I have decided that the Vindicators were not worth bringing as they were dead or disabled by turn 2. In that time, they would maybe get to fire once, and even then cover saves often negated any wounds they inflicted.
I come here again with a modified list hoping for some feedback as I would like to start playing more competitive. The competition bug has bitten me since playing my brother
*130 (Loved him along side my Assault Squad. More than made up the points in each of the three games)
Tactical Squad-10 Man
Tactical Squad-10 Man
*245 (Switched from Multi-Meltas to the Lascannons)
Scout Sniper Squad-10 Man
-HF Heavy Bolter
*150 (These were the simplest solution to taking down his Wraithlords)
Assault Terminator Squad
-Land Raider Crusader as dedicated transport
*460 (Another winning combination. Was lucky against his Bright Lance fire, unlike my Vindicators )
Assault Squad- 10 Man
*190 (My favorite unit. Played a clean up role very well. Would add a Power Fist, but since the chappy got one cheap, and is attached, I saved the points)
*70 (Don't really like how fragile these are, but I felt I needed some versatile anti-armor in my army)
*85 (New additions after ditching the Vindicators. Figure they would be able to at least attempt to inflict damage from turn 1 and would last a lot longer that and they are cheap and could support my troops without fear of scattering on them)
Should total 1730 points at this point, so I still have a few points to spread around.
With this list I figure I could combat squad the tactical squad, leaving the Lascannon back behind cover while the PF and Flamer go for a ride in a Razor to grab, or contest objectives. This way I would be able to get more use out of my heavy weapon choice in the squad. The benefit of the Multi-Meltas were wasted with the shield his wave serpents had anyways.
The speeders, in theory, would be able to toast armor that was out of sight of my Lascannons. The assault marines would again play clean up, or support the rest of my army where needed.
I understand the Vindicators have there place, and I will most likely bring them back out, along with my Whirlwind, against an Ork, or Tyranid army. Thanks for your time and input
HQ: Keep the power weapon. Use digiweapoons if you have a few points left over. As an independant character the chaplin can be singled out in combat and killed before he gets to attack.
Elites: Good. Swap the LRC for a LRR. They work well against eldar after you have delivered the passengers. LRs are however vulnerable to the bright lance and you might do better to just buy 10 termies and accept that some will get shot on the run up the field.
Fast: Get a powerfist here where they cannot be singled out. Speeders are ok and remember you can deepstrike them using the HF to kill dire avengers. If you face lots of eldar tanks then considder MM armed attack bikes.
Heavy: Swap these for AC+2LC configurations. For the points they make a good all round tank able to shoot vehicles and pick off elite infantry or wraithlords.
