So, a friend I usually play against wants some C&C for his list. He doesn't speak english very well, so he asked me if I could post his list for him. So, here it goes:
-Librarian in TDA, shield, Might of the Ancients and Null Zone ( 140 )
Tactical Squad with Power weapon, missile launcher and flamer, Rhino ( 220 )
Sniper Scouts with Missile Launcher ( 85 )
5 Termies with Cyclone Missile Launcher, Land Raider Redeemer with Multimelta ( 480 )
6 Sternguard with Combimeltas on Razorback with Lascannon and TL Plasma Gun( 255 )
Dreadnought ( 105 )
Thunderfire Cannon ( 100 )
Vindicator ( 115 )
The main weakness I see myself is the lack of troop options, but he's managed so far. What would you change or suggest?
Yeah I dunno about sticking a Land Raider AND Terminators in a 1500 point list. If you drop the Terminators altogether you can get an extra 10 man Tactical Squad with Meltagun, Missle Launcher, Powerfist and still have 30 points to spare! Plus you can stick them in the Land Raider as well.
The Land Raider Redemeer does have awesome cannons but it is limited in range, so consider making this a Crusader if you still can?!?!
With the points freed up give the Dreadnought an Assault Cannon to make it more versatile. And make that Thunderfire Cannon a Vindicator.
The TFC is good but I see its uses as more of a planned game where you know you're going up against horde armies. Where as the Vindicator is more of a cover all corners unit.
Good list to start with though just tweak it a little and have fun!
From what we've seen, the Thunderfire Cannon has really been worth the points. Definately not something you'd want in multiples, but I've seen it deal more damage to, say, necrons, than the rest of his army put together. Plus it's pretty much game against horde.
The Land Raider, I agree it's quite risky. An awesome unit if lasts a turn or two, but a single immobilised result makes it useless. I'll suggest changing it, but he's really grown fond of those S6 AP3 flamers.
I hadn't even though about dropping the termies. We tested assault termies, but fell back to the shooty ones. The ATs aren't even that good in CC, and in exchange lose any and all shooting capabilities whatsoever. But maybe dropping the Termies for another Tactical squad would free up points AND helps solve the troops problem. I'll tell him that.
As for the Heavy Bolter in the Scouts unit, that's what he originally used, but fell back to the missile launcher. It's at least as good against MC's, except you don't have to scatter, and only slightly worse against normal troops. Still, he COULD give it another chance.
Thanks for all the help so far! I'll pass along the advice, and report back with whatever he thinks.
I'd keep the Termies and ditch the Land Raider. Buy another squad and give some stuff Tele Homers. Kit the Termies out for guns, and DS them in as fire support and a headache unit.
Keep the Librarian with them if you like but give him close support powers, any of the shooting ones are good. You can downgrade him to only having one power to save points as well, since you won't need both.
