Hey hey~ I started collecting warhammer and such about 8 years ago and predominately bought into Space Marines. Shortly after I gave the hobby up and because I was so young I never really looked into building an effective army, rather my friends and I just played with our own amended rules =p
I'd just like some advice on building a basic 1000-1500 point ultramarine army based on what I already have.
Here's what I have/can find:
- 1 Full tactical squad
- 1 bike
- 1 Dreadnought
- 1 Space marine landspeeder (though it's missing it's base)
- 1 Space Marine with Heavy Bolter
- 1 Space Marine with Lascannon
- 1 Chief Librarian
It's been so long I've even forgotten what these are worth >_>;
Any help would be appreciated~~

Your full tactical squad must be 10 marines, so that could be broken down into two 5-man squads, which would be legal to count as your two mandatory troop selections IF neither of those squads takes a special weapon or heavy weapon. Basically, if there are less than 10 marines in the squad, all they can have are bolters.
Your dreadnought is a good Elite unit (you can have up to 3 of the Elites). What weapons does it have?
The landspeeder is a good Fast Attack (you can have up to 3 FA). What weapons does it have?
The single bike can not operate on it's own, unless it is an independent character, like a captain, librarian, or chaplain. It can be any of those and it will be a 2nd HQ. That is ok.
That makes a legal list, but it is small and I have not calculated the points. What I recommend, is you get another tactical squad of ten marines. Then you can put your two heavy weapons (the lascannon and the heavy bolter) in each of your tactical squads.
Please let me know how your dread and landspeeder are armed, and do you have any special bits you can use to dress up your biker? A cool sword, or other weapon? A fancy backpack? Some scroll bitz or purity seals...?
For getting more models, I recommend some rhinos, and a vindicator tank. Probably some more bikes too. After I see the weapons for your Dread and LS I will make a list for you...
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Weapons for both are boringly basic. The landspeeder atm is actually missing the gun thing at the side but I know it's in this box of mine somewhere. I dont suppose anything is legal without a physical weapon? Like a random marine without a gun can do any damage?
The dreadnought seems to be equipped with a storm bolter and power fist
The Libararian is 100 points.
If you make the guy on the bike a captain he is 135 points.
The tactical squad (ten space marines) including one with a lascannon is 180 points.
You can assume the landspeeder has a heavy bolter and that makes it 50 points.
You have a total of 580 points with this list.
Here is what I recommend:
Get a tactical squad box
Get a rhino
Get two drop pods
Get a commander box.
Make a second tactical squad and make a melta gunner and a guy with a flamer. I recommend giving one sergeant a power fist.
Give the captain on bike a power sword, artificer armor and hellfire rounds. 175 points.
Deploy one tactical squad in the rhino and one in a drop pod.
Deploy the dreadnought in a drop pod and give him extra armor and a heavy flamer.
Get an attack bike with a multi-melta.
This will give you 1000 points and it will be a lot of fun to play! You won't win many games until you practice, but it will be a decent list and it is minimal purchases on your part.
Make sure you buy a codex!
