Hey, think I'm gonna try out the below for a friendly match tomorrow, but wanted to see what people though.
HQ - 110:
Rune Priest /w Talisman, Murderous Hurricane + 1 other (goes in Pod /w Grey Hunters)
Elite - 337:
Wolf Guard /w Thunder Hammer (goes with Blood Claws in LRC)
Wolf Guard /w Wolf Claw (goes in Pod /w Grey Hunters)
Wolf Guard /w Term Armor and Cyclone Missile Launcher(goes with footslogging Grey Hunters)
6x Wolf Guard /w Razorback, Power Fist, Frost Axe, MotWulfen
15x Blood Claws /w Power Fist, 2x Melta (go in LRC) - 255
10x Grey Hunters /w Power Fist, 2x Plasma, MotWulfen - 200
8x Grey Hunters /w Power Fist, Melta, MotWulfen, Drop Pod - 200
Land Raider Crusader /w EA = 265
Predator /w AC and 2x LC = 120
Right now this comes to 1487.
My plan would be to use the 10man Grey Hunter group to secure a home objective and provide some ranged support with Plasmas and the Cyclone launcher. I'm really intrigued by this squad setup so will almost certainly try them out a few times. I know people have hard ons for all mech (I play IG, so I know it!), but I think there is value in a squad that holds home objectives and maintain a threat at both range and CC.
Drop Pod comes in to apply pressure and impede the advance of groups with murderious hurricane. The drop pods are most likely supported by the razorback Wolf Guard coming to meet them, or possibly the LRC.
At this point I feel like its just time to try things out with this codex and see how they work. I don't want to take any special characters quite yet until I start to feel out how the squads on their own perform. If anyone has played with similar load outs or sees an obvious issue (or something illegal) let me know. Thanks for any comments!
I tend to agree here; Rhino spam & Land raider rush are fine and all, but its not like footslogging is completely useless or condemns your list to failure. Frankly i rather like units on foot, moving from cover to cover, running for their dear lives. Must be why i like scouts so much.
Speaking of which, why is it that i haven't seen scouts in posted lists since the new codex? Wouldn't it be a better choice for a objective babysitting squad to be scouts with camo cloaks. Or do they fulfill a different function in the SW codex?
But yeah, overall it looks good on paper. Maybe switch the Predator to a Vindicator? And consider the scouts for babysitting objectives (If that's what they are meant for )

As for the list, I like the cyclone with the footslogging GH. Gives them some firepower. Keeps you from sweeping advance, but the several turns of extra firepower more than makes up.
I haven't managed to play a game yet with the new dex, but its looking pretty nice. I prefer to play without Special characters. I think they unbalance the game too much. (Although they can be entertaining)

Anyway, yeah, the scouts in a SW army definitely seem to fill a different niche than those in a Codex army. I will happily run scouts in a Codex army as objective campers when doing things like bike armies or Term heavy armies. But as MC Bone Giant points out, they are elite in SW land, so can't hold objectives, just contest. I'll probably try them out later, especially if I get a few in the battleforce.
Good call about the sweeping advance, forgot that part. Definitely still going to try this group and see how it plays, but good to remember I can't sweep up losing opponents in CC.
k, give the rune priest master of the runes or give him JOTWW. because one won't hurt you that much and it will be you the joy of killing your opponenents favourite cc monster like abbaddon kharn and it is a good carni killer .
