I'm going to be playing my BA chapter vs my friend's Chaos at 1500pts and I needed some help since I've never played them before.
My List would be something like this as a base 1000pt even:
His List will be mostly consisting of Rhino mounted Berzerkers and Plauge Marines probably hoofing it around, a Demon Price or two, and some Oblits. I know probably each squad of his will have a powerfist. With my remaining 500pts I'm wondering what I should use to combat his very tough Plauge Marines and pop his Rhinos with assaulters inside. I could add some Baal Preds for dakka, or a Dread to carry another melta gun and assault powerhouse. More speeders for more meltas? I dunno, I have lots of choices.
- Lord Dante
- Carbulo in Rhino with 3 DC
- 2x 5-man ASM in Rhinos
- Sargents had PW and Melta Bombs (Cheaper than Fist and uses my Furious Charge ability to more effect)
- 10-man Tac Squad with Las-cannon
- 2x Landspeeders with MM
The other thing is strategy. I'm guessing I want to get the charge wherever possible, to deny him his bonuses and use all of my bonuses. Basically this is two mechanized assault armies duking it out and will be a definite game of chess of trying to strike first and falling back out of range a lot. Thanks for any ideas.
Well I don't have much experience with Blood Angels, well none to be precise (and you can see my thread one below yours), but I can try and give you some general thoughts.
What to get:
Something with jump packs for Dante to role with. Looking through the Book I would say Honour Guard lets you use his Chapter Standard ability and power weapons or power fists would help against marines, especially Plague Marines, and power fists with +1 attack seems not bad. Then maybe more Jp assault marines, or some scouts w/ power fist to infiltrate near his oblits? Dread could be good too.
I could see a big thing being keeping your Speeders mobile and popping rhinos to force him to foot slog
Fought my friend tonight against his Nurgle and Khorne guys and pulled out a draw. Pretty much anything and everything that could go wrong did. Failed saves, good old codex screwed me with no eternal warrior on my chapter master, weapon destroyed results on on all my vehicles only because every shot he rolled was a 2 with a melta so totaled to 3, leaving my speeders and Preds with nothing to shoot with really. Carbulo couldn't heal because the only thing doing wounds were Monstrous Creature hits and Power Fists, which can't be healed. So I just rammed my weaponless vehicles onto the capture point he held and it ended on a draw.
Not fun at alllll. Will need to make a better list for next time.
here is a list i used recently for 1500pts this was also against chaos.
Terminator Assault Squad x5
death company ("free") x5

jump pack x6
asaault squad x5
assault squad x5
land raider crusader
Obviously the termies ride in the LRC with Corbulo and the DC stay behind it moving up the center of the board with the small assault squads as outriders staying in Corbulo's 12" bubble and in cover as best they can when the time is right they jump out wrecking vehicles and such with the terminators and DC being the main frontline fighters. the tacticals can either combat squad and hold home ground objectives and move up in the rhinos for objective games or can stay together in their rhinos and troubleshoot dependent on the situation.
I have also recently been trying out Mephiston (he's an absolute butcher but supprisingly fragile as he has no Inv save), Veteran Assault Squads (fun but very expencive) and BA scouts (again more expencive than SM scouts but better ballistic skill, no camo though) ill post again if i have more to say on these.

I played him a second time with a list he even suggested, which upped my AS to 10 man units, dropped Dante, a speeder, and a Baal, in return for my other 2 speeders to carry heavy flamers and include a Furioso DC dread. Result? Still a draw. Speeders didn't do so much, eventho I could fit an entire Plague sqaud under two templates in the same turn, I couldn't kill that many of them. Everything was mediocre, except my 3 DC troops were able to wipe a whole Plauge squad on their own, because I got quite a few 6s to rend. On the bottom of 5, we played out each move we'd make like chess and determined it was impossible for either of us to wipe the other out on the control point to win, we just had too many units still alive within range, so we called it there.
I must have been posting at the same time you were check the above and let me know what you think.
