hi, guys its been awhile sense i last came here and posted. then it was about help with a space marine army.... now its about help with a Guard army...(everyone in my group builds too slow so to slow myself down I am building 2 armies)
Well here is the list, tell me whats right, whats wrong, whats stupid, what makes no sense, etc:
Command squad- commander w/power weapon medic, standard bearer, and sniper 110pts
Troops:platoon command -JO w/plasma pistol 40pts
1st squad- grenade launcher 55pts
2nd squad- flamer 55pts
heavy weapons squad- 2 autocanons/ 1 missile launcher 80pts
Sentinel- with plasma cannon 75pts
Leman Russ Executioner- w/heavy bolter sponsons 210pts
Storm Troopers squad- 10 man, Sgt. w/boltgun, melta-gun 175pts
Chimera w/autocanon 75pts
that's the 1000pts part(had to make a last minute rearrange i forgot the platoon command so i know something else has to be wrong up there)
here is the 500pts add on:
Leman Russ Vanquisher - extra armor, and plasma sponsons 210pts
Leman Russ- with lascanon 165pts
2 more sentinels 1 w/autocanon, 1 w/missile launcher 125pts
i think I've got it all figured out right points wise... anyway tell me what you would change and/or keep. I'm trying to do this with as few purchases as possible(with a few exceptions for fun stuff)
here is the color scheme I'm thinking on using(i bought the executioner because it looked cool, its not done yet i just have it painted up to ask what people think of the color scheme)
I'm liking the colour scheme. Just try to make the patterns a little more random though, rather than having them in clear banding.
Just a few points about the list.
1)Sniper rifles are more for fluff. They can be good, but a plasma gun would be more effective.
2)Power fists are a better choice than power weapons, as with I3 you'd normally be striking last anyway. Thats if you really want to get into combat at all.
3)Nowhere near enough infantry. You need at least another platoon or a squad of veterans. One platoon will not win objective based games for you.
4)Try not to mix weapons in your HWS.
5)Don't bother with sponsons on your vanquisher. Just give it a lascannon, camo netting and stick it behind cover.
6)Try to get some special weapons in your platoon command; I'd recommned flamers.
Generally not too bad, but the big thing is more infantry.
ok, I will switch out the power weapon and sniper for a plasma gun (i love plasma anyway) Power fists are awesome but I'm going to try and stay away from close combat with this squad.Command squad- commander w/power weapon medic, standard bearer, and sniper 110ptsand here I'll just take Autocannons 75pts nowheavy weapons squad- 2 autocanons/ 1 missile launcher 80ptsadd a flamer here with the 5pts from ditching the missile launcherplatoon command -JO w/plasma pistol 40pts
to get some more infantry I'm going to replace the sentinel with a vet squad with a flamer 75pts (also thinking about dropping the chimeras autocanon turret to give the vets a plasma gun, is that a good swap or should i leave it?)change the missile launcher to a plasma cannon 135pts now2 more sentinels 1 w/autocanon, 1 w/missile launcher 125ptschange this like you suggested to camo netting, and lascannon dropping it to 200ptsLeman Russ Vanquisher - extra armor, and plasma sponsons 210pts
this leaves me with 10pt extra that I'm not sure what to do with any suggestions? does any of this sound good?
This all sounds good to me. Just check your codex though, 'cause I don't think that chimeras can have autocannons. I'd use the spare points to give your vets some more flamers, as these make great horde-busters.
Just ask if you need any more help, and if I'm not around some people will be. Good luck with your army!
@cpt.scragglybeard, i would drop all the crap on the command squads and replace the stormtroopers with veterans, so you have some points to get some extra squads and giving the veterans some more anti tank.

This Planet Is Murder
Since an infantry platoon is only one troop choice on the FO chart, you only have one troop choice, so you MUST drop something for a vet squad or another platoon.
1 heavy weapons squad will die very quickly, but they can still be useful.
Sentinels get expensive with plasma cannon. It looks like you are running armored too. I would recommend saving some points and making them scouts and equipping autocannons. Maybe just personal preference but I have had a lot better luck with 'em coming in from the side, taking out a rhino, and then dying a glorious and flaming death after having tied up a tac squad for two turns.
Also something to think about: those sentinels are going to take up 205 pts in your 1500 pts list... that is a ton. If you dropped the last two you could bring a vendetta which is infinitely more useful. Could even bring a hellhound or bane wolf.
Plasma Pistols are really so-so. One plasma gun isn't going to do much in the ccs except kill himself, even with the medic.
If the ccs is staying back with the platoon try and give them camo cloaks.
That stormtropper squad is way too big, I would say drop it for a vet squad with meltas and a chimera. It is kinda cheesy maybe, but you get 3 meltaguns with a melta range of 12".
I am not a fan of the executioner, but you already bough it so... At least take off the heavy bolter sponsons, they aren't as useful as they seem.
Ah. Thanks. Ididn't know that.
I agree that stormtroopers are a bit risky. Some people like them, some don't. Sometimes their armour and hot-shot lasguns are worth it, and sometimes they die messily. This is the point where you need to play around a bit. Stormtroopers work best for outflanking and moving around in transports. With this sort of army, where you have lots of long range firepower, and a moderate amount of infantry, stormtroopers may help against shooty armies.
Just see what works for you.
Maybe you're right, in a 1500 point game a valk or vendetta would be very handy. It would make a very good transport for Veterans/stormtroopers.
(P.S. not only are the stormtrooper models great, they are very fluffy, which can be more than enough reason to use them.)

Not a great list, sorry. Here's what you're doing wrong:
HQ: Drop the Medic, Sniper and Power Weapon. Get more useful Special Weapons (Meltaguns, Flamers, Plasmaguns). If they're not going to be moving, stick them in cover with Camo Cloaks and a heavy weapon team too. If they are moving, get a Chimera and 4 special weapons.
Elites: Stormtroopers are too expensive. What specific role are you using these for? If your answer is "I don't know" or "It varies" then drop them. Either get a couple of meltaguns and deep strike or stop using them.
Troops: You only have one Troops choice - read your codex.
Drop the Plasma Pistol because you can have a Plasma Gun for the same points and they're much better. In fact, your Platoon Command Squad can have up to four. You'll be annoyed when the Platoon Commander kills himself anyway, so save yourself some trouble.
Your Infantry Squads don't have any Heavy Weapons. Why? Heavy Weapon Squads die very quickly because they consist of 3 x W2 T3 models. One lucky Multilaser could kill the whole squad. Put them into your Infantry Squads and Platoon Command Squad instead.
Fast Attack: AV12 Plasma Cannon for 75pts? No. Don't even think about it. You lose the only two things that are good about Sentinels: Scouts and cheap cost. Take Sentinels in groups of 3 with Multilasers and nothing else or don't take them at all.
Executioner isn't a bad choice, but why have you given it Heavy Bolters? This tank can fire up to 5 Plasma Cannon shots per turn and you want to fire Heavy Bolters instead?
Basilisk: There are much better artillery choices. Medusa, Colossus, Manticore...
500pt Add On
Vanquisher: It's rubbish. If you want a Leman Russ, get a Demolisher. If you want anti-tank, there are about a million better choices in the IG army.
Leman Russ: Drop the Lascannon, Heavy Bolter will be more useful. If you're shooting at tanks with your Leman Russ you're doing something very wrong. Consider a Demolisher instead.
Sentinels: See above. Scout Sentinels with Multilasers/Autocannon or don't bother.
ok I've swapped the HB for more plasma that 20 extra points doesn't seem all that bad now.
basically, could one of you maybe write up a 1000pt list that includes my executioner and a 500pt addition? i built it cause i liked it and wanted it to fit into an army not just sit there and look good. i haven't purchased anything else yet it would be fighting orcs and eldar. (green tide and wraith lords/ wraith guard is what they are doing, were going up to 1000 first then move on from there)
thanks for all your help i think it would be easier if you could just show me a list than trying to listen and fix this one that I've apparently screwed up pretty bad.(remember I'm just starting and I'm trying to do this with as few purchases as possible.)
