hey trying to get a 500 list sorted for some local gaming, at first itll mostly be versus plague marines. anyway here it is...
3 melta guns
3 plasma guns
platoon command squad
any thoughts would be appreciated.
ok plan is obviously mounted the vets and command squad, use them to do drive bys on anything that comes close. sit the platoon down to provide fire across the board and attempt to put enough wounds on anything big or scary or pop any transports that appear.

I like it, pretty well covers all its bases.
Just a couple things:
-Generally melta is more flexible and reliable than plasma, also cheaper. Plasma is more or less tailored to gun down heavy infantry, but that's pretty much it. If you're tailoring to go after Plague Marines then it works great.
-Extra armor is generally too expensive for Chimeras. It's nice to keep rolling, but 15 points for something that happens 1/6 times is not too great. You can get more instead.
-Lascannons on BS3 models are a no go unless they're twin-linked. Since your CCS will be zooming around I don't them ordering much, just drop it for an autocannon or some flamers.
-Grenade Launchers are neat, but hardly essential.
Dropping the extra armor, grenade launchers, and downgrading from lascannon to autocannon frees up 35 points, which is just enough for a Scout Sentinel with a Multi-Laser. They aren't much to write home about, but for cheap you get an AV10 walker with 3 S6 shots. He can ping vehicles or stick wounds on something, plus so long as the unit doesn't have anything to hurt him (powerfists, S5+) he can tie them down for a while, buying you time to reposition to counter attack.

hey thanks for the reply, i actually put the melta squad in becuase i thought 2 groups of plasma would be a bit cheesy hehe. i just worry about the waves of plague marines and the dp getting close and not having enough to stop them, thus the plasma crew in the chimera. so the gunning down heavy infantry role is exactly what im after
agree on the EA bit ill drop that for extra points.
lascannon - well i wanted a long range answer for his dp and anythign nasty that turns up in this small scale game. worst case use it to gun down for sure a marine. im reasoning that the command squad will stay in range of it for 2 turns untill things get close and personal and in the perfect world scrape 2 wounds off the dp before he gets to me.
if i drop the ea alone i have 15 points to spend, i could use that to place voxes on the command squad, vets and platoon command squad, giving those squads a valuable re roll when tyring to get the bring it down order.

I wouldn't worry about the waves of Plague Marines. They are my main opponents at the mo and they'll only scrape 2 small squads at best in 500pts. Especially if their HQ is a Daemon Prince.
One thing that does bring paint to DG and i mean real Pain is Demo Charges. You hit a Plague Marine squad with one of these and you can just remove the squad. If you put that on the Vet Squad they should be one serious MEQ killing unit.
I'd drop the Lascannon, It's expesnive and it's only one shot. Even if you twin link it it's still a bit meh. Plus in a 5 man squad they'll be chomped through pretty easily. Drop it to an Autocannon and you should be fine.
Deffinatly drop the Extra armour. It's too expensive for what it does.
Dropping the extra armour and the Lascannon to a Autocannon gives you 25pts, which is almost enough for the Democharge.
Just a quick note: as your CCS is not very likely to issue orders to anybody but itself, maybe you should switch plasmas and meltas. I don't think it makes any difference for your list in general, but if you happen to use plasmas against monster (say, DP), you'll be able to reroll them, which is a bit more chance for plasmagunners to stay alive.
Yes, I do not trust this weapon at all, unless it is mounted on vehicle or carried by obliterator (though it sometimes happens to wound even through their 2+ save)
"...But the rest of the cows and market analysts call them mad. Well, twenty-three zillion bacteria said the same thing a hundred million years ago. And guess where they are today? They're still bacteria!" (c)
I would second swapping the Plasma/Melta around, so that your CSS carries the Plasmaguns. If your opponent fields a daemon prince, they can jump out of the Chimera and use the 'Bring it Down!' order to twin-link their Plasmaguns. This allows you to not only avoid those dreaded 1's, but very likely take down the prince in one turn.
thanks for the replies
so revised would look a lil like this,
3 plasma guns
3 melta guns
platoon command squad
dead on 500
For 500pts that's pretty nasty.
Do you have any plans to expand this yet?
Nice list. You pretty much got all your bases covered and you have enough firepower to deal enough damage to most other lists.
thanks, yeah iv only recently started guard after various other armies, played for 12 years so this is the latest project.
i plan to build it up like all my other armies to at least 6k, i like to be able to play lots of different lists etc.
iv thrown some ideas around about 1k, but nothing concrete yet, ill probably add another platoon, a russ and see what i have left.
although long term plans is to use a commisar lord with vets in a vendetta, i always try build myself into the armies i play hehe and that seems cool, but thats all long term.
thanks for the pointers and ill let you know how it does.
