As the topic suggests i'm trying to make a tournament list based on the crimson fists chapter, the tournament is about 2 months away so i'm trying to make a start on my display board and models ready for the tournament. The tournament rules are as follows, No Vehicles Allowed at all. No HQ can cost over 200 points. Only 1 Troop and 1 HQ needs to bee included, other than that it's standard 40k
My current list is as follows
Tactical squad (10)
Tactical Squad (10)
Terminator Squad (5)
Sternguard Squad (6)
So i was wondering if anyone would care to share some advice, my friend is taking a particularly nasty eldar list, which includes Jain'Zar and a wraithlord. how do i deal with a wraithlord at this point level without vehicles? any advice is greatly appreciated!
The solution is lots of high strengt shots, mass bolters or PF/TH.
You're list is not really good in either CC or shooting (at least long range firepower). And it's slow. But i don't know the missons and wether this will be a problem.
You will need to move forward against armies with more long range firepower than you, but then you can't fire your heavys (unless you combat squad of course). What's your strategy with this list ?
I would take some CC-units either for offensive or counter attack. Assault termies or assault marines.
I also think heavy bolters is wasting points in the sternguard squad. You pay a high price for the special ammunition, which you don't use.
Maybe a biker army would be fine ? Or at least some speedy units. How about the great attack bike ?
Kantor shure is fluffy in a Crimson fist army, but in 100 points with just one sternguard squad i think there is better HQ. I would prefere a Libby with terminator armour. Maybe with Null zone and Gate. I normally don't like Gate, but at 1000 points with no vec. allowed, he is a funny way to transport units around. Join him to your termies and deep strike them close to some nice target. If something scary gets close - teleport to another target.
Thanks for the advice it's greatly appreciated.
As for addressing the issues such as combat, i'm not particularly sure what to do. The missions are standard, sieze ground, capture and control and annihilation. I've always used vehicles so i have no idea how to make a good foot slogging army.
I made a second list;
Tactical squad-10 man
tactical Squad-10 man
I have about 115 points left to spend with this list but no idea what to do with it.
The reason i took out the two heavy bolters in the sternguard squad was as you rightly said sternguard are there for their special ammunition.
I also took lysander over kantor because his bolter drill works beautifully with sternguard and gives me a decent combat character. I'm not sure how to address the close combat issue, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I love lysander, but he is a rather expensive HQ in 1000 points. For the rest of your 115 points : maybe 2 attack bikes ?
On a sidenote: a tourny at 1000 who don't allow vec., but allow MC seems strange. IG will be hit hard, but Nids, chaos can field their strong armies.
Wow, no vehicles? Some armies are really getting screwed there...
Against MC's, which are definitely going to be making an appearance, Sternguard really is all you need.
I also think Kantor or Lysander a little too expensive in 1000pt games. What you really lack is some mobility. Librarian with Gate or a SM Captain with Relic Blade/SS/Bike would be great additions.
Something like a Terminator Librarian and 5 TH/SS Termies would give you a mobile, hard-hitting unit for close combats.
Also, do not underestimate Scouts! They are cheap and can be great for laying down covering fire or grabbing objectives.
As the others said go with a libby with termi armor and Gate. He's cheap and gives you back some of the mobility that is taken away by the lack of vehicles. I also must support the suggestion to grab a couple of multi melta attack bikes to give you a speedy answer to MCs.
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!
I survived LO Chat thanks to: Karmoon, Rabbit, Process, Tossy and Meish.
To be fair i don't think there will be alot of MC's at the tournament, all the people i've talked to have said what army they want to take and some don't have access to daemon princes or have started their new nid army yet.
The only MC i'm bothered about is a wraithlord, it'll be more of an army suited to destroy eldar and MEQ's more than monstrous creatures.
Thanks for the further advice, any more nuggets of wisdom are greatly appreciated!
what would you kit the librarian out with, because, i'll have to pick up a model. I only have librarian with terminator armor. Also what else would you use with the Librarian.
Librarian with Terminator Armour is enough. He comes with a Force Weapon and that's really all you need. Storm Shield if you want to get fancy but not really necessary as you don't have many points to play with.
As for Attack Bikes with MM's vs MC's, not necessary. He's packing enough Plasma and Sternguard. 50-60pts for a single-shot weapon is not worth it, in this case.
