Welcome to Librarium Online!
HQ: 1x Command Squad 100 points: Lascannon and Master of Ordnance
Troops: 3x Penal Legion Squads: 240 points
Troops: 1x Veteran Squad: 105 points w/ Autocannon, Grenade Launcher ,Seargant has plasma pistol and power sword,
Fast Attack: Armoured Sentinel w/ Multi-laser 55 points
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm new to this site and I've never had to make an Imp army this small.
First of all, welcome to LO. Now then, lets have a look at this list.
Not bad, but I really, really wouldn't use the Master of Ordnance in a game of this size. He hardly hits anything in the larger games, so you would need to be very lucky to get a hit in a 500 point game. The Lascannon is Ok, but another autocannon would probably serve you better. Lascannons are for cracking open the really heavy tanks, and will you be meeting a land raider or a predator in 500 points? Not likely. Go for another autocannon (trust me, we like them here on LO).
Penal Legion are cool and fun, but a bit random. I would hesitate before using them in a 500 point game, and I certainly wouldn't take 30. Perhaps just one squad would be more like it, if you really do want to use them.
That veteran squad isn't bad, but you've got three special weapons slots and a BS of 4. Take advantage of it, it is a precious thing in the guard. Take a couple more G-launchers. And also, I would bother with extra gear for the sarge. Assault isn't the place for guard anyway, and power fists beat the swords in that situation anyway. Overheating on a 5+ save model? Not good. I would take at elast another suqad of veterans here, or else add a cheap platoon with autocannons and grenade launchers.
That sentinels ok, but I would make it a scouting one, just to save a few points.
If you want a really nasty unit for this army, get a hydra. They are ultimate in small games (and larger ones for that matter).
Not bad for a first attempt. Kee posting mate
P.S. with a name like 'Judge Dread', why haven't you got an avatar of the man himself yet?
2500 points of Empire for ToXG: Points painted for month 4: 0 Points painted overall: 510
Thank you first of all for the advice. I'll probably take your advice on the HQ. Regarding troops, I agree about the Penal Legion. I had to playtest the army and it got whooped. I'm most likely going to either add a chimera or bane wolf to support the veteran squads and I'll take out the wargear. As for the sentinel I don't trust Armour 10 especially when armoured sentinels can take an amazing beating in close combat.
Like Chad mentioned before...
I would definatly swap out the Penal Legion for a Platoon with some guns. Penal Legion are cool and handy for flanking and grabbing objectives. But they really are a support unit and in your list there's nothing to support.
In a 500pts I'd grab a Platoon as one troop choice and then either another platoon or a Veteran squad as your other troops choice. Chimeras are nasty little tanks at 500pts as not many people can cope with Av12. Hydras and Griffons are also cheap and nasty in small games.
Thanks Borak for the input. What is the opinion on Bane Wolfs or Hellhounds at 500 points? I was considering adding one in and I'm not sure it's worth the 130 points or not.
CCS: 50 points
PCS: 30 points
ISx2: 100 points
VS: 135 points with 2 g-launchers and Chimera
AS: 55 points
BW: 130 points
Feelings on this idea?
You have to have special weapons in your squads. in 500pt games i wouldnt expect vehicles with anything greater then av12. this is what i would play if you are planning on a foot sloggin list:
CCS:autocannon, 2x glauncher:70pts
PCS:autocannon, 4x flamer: 50pts
VS:3x melta, chimera: 155
480 total...leaves you with 20 filler points...but that just my opinion
Well it's supposed to be a semi-armored regiment. You have the Bane Wolf and Armoured Sentinel deal damage while your squads advance and protect them. The Chimera, Sentinel, Bane Wolf, and Vet squad are the main damage and the other infantry is cannon fodder.
Sentinels wont cause much damage and that basically leaves everything up to the Bane Wolf. If that goes your plans are pretty much screwed. Loose the Sentinel and use those points to grab some guns.
If you want a Mech force consider just taking Veterans as your 2 troop choices with Chimeras (plus special weapons)
CCS - 2 Plasmaguns, Chimera - 135pts
Vets - 3 Melta Guns, Chiemra -155pts
Vets - 3 Melta Guns, Chiemra -155pts
65pts left over? You could grab Marbo. Maybe drop the CCs Plasma down to Melta guns and grab a Hydra.

Just wondering, does everyone actually use a Marbo model or do they just convert one? Isn't sending guardsman in without a cover save theoretically a bad decision. You have two squads in chimeras. You pop out and get shot by SMs and die and if they don't decide to shoot you they could merely assault you. Having a 12" range gun seems like a horrible idea. One volley would be the most you could expect. I understand the chimelta concept, but on a 500 point army it seems seriously risky to put all of your troops right next to the enemy.
