the guard half of the army is to hold points and provide a distraction and be general cannon fodder. The Space Marine elements of the army are going to mass on one flank of the battlefield and launch a powerful armoured thrust at the enemy objectives which guard units can then advance to capture. Any problems?

EDIT: I've taken a look at what you have around, and have some thoughts on your lists.
The IG chunk looks fine. The Autocannon/Glauncher squads should work rather well, and you have a nice big bunch of bodies at your disposal.
Your Marines are looking good for the most part but need a bit of tweaking. The 5 man squad cannot take a flamer, I would suggest a power weapon or power fist. The chaplain plus that will give you a lot of punch in CC.
