Caveats aplenty here! I wanted to post this for the shear novelty, and not to say this will work or be competitive or anything. So don't go trying to argue me out of this or something, 'cause I'll probably play this once, lose horribly, and never mention it again.
Anyway, here it is:
2x 5-man DC with 3 power weapons each
2x DC Dread with HF
2x Stormraven with MM and AC
That comes out to an even 1500pts and is a legal list, but completely incapable of holding an objective! lol! The two ravens start on the table with the 5-men and either Astorath or Lemartes and a Dread. They can fire all their missiles at the on set to soften the enemy, maybe even the MM and AC if they start close to the deployment edge and move up. All the units can assault from the raven after a move. With the new rules, both squads can re-roll "to hit" and "to wound" on the first assault. Then they can JP away to another unit and the Dreads can smash MCs and Tanks while the ravens zip around giving fire support.
You couldn't win Obj games, but could dominate KP missions with the brute force. But on the other side you can give up a few number of KPs your self, since we're talking armor 12 vehicles and 5/6 man squads. Annnyway, that's my one crazy list from the new codex. ;-) I'll post my actual/competitive list on here later.
It could actually work in a KP game if you can keep at least one model alive till the end of the game solely because provided you don't get wiped you only have 6 KP's to cough up(7 total, but you'll need something to survive if you want to win) and your very likely to rake in more than 6 Kp's with the amount of pain you can dish out with this list. Like I said, the trick would be to make sure something actually survives the whole game so you don't lose do to Wipe Out. Probs most likely a Stormraven who could fly off and hide in a corner.
Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
Yeah, it can give up the points, but there's not many of em. With 3+ and FNP, should do alright, just keep em in CC to avoid getting shot. Anything with tons of power weapons I might throw the Dreads at or shoot at range with the Ravens. Once in CC, I think you're looking at 10 or more unsaved wounds per assault, so you would wipe most things quickly. If the old rules were around were you could consolidate into another unit after combat, this would be broken, haha. I guess you could always use this as a first step into a 2000 pt game and actually add tac squads in Rhinos or RZBs to hold objectives and give them more weapons, or support somehow.
You could win objective games too...if you table your opponent...!
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Hang on a second... hear me out: DC Dreads are under the Troop Choice section but don't suffer from Black Rage, only normal Rage. If an objective is behind a wall, or in terrain you can't see thru, you couuuuuuuld maybe hold a point, lol. Or, have them assault units on objectives and clear them before turn 5/6. Eh? Maybe? haha. That, or they'll errata this to "Black Rage" in a few months anyway.
