heys been awhile since i last posted some years ago and i am needing some help with the new Imperial Guard list, my main opponents are marine lovers who usually do rapid strike forces (rhino rush or bike mix) what should be my elite and armour choices, already planned and have models for 2 Infantry platoons just wanting abit of help in what to use to crack the main force of the SM
PLC - vox
2 infantrys with autocannon and vox, grenade launcher
PLC - power weapon plasma pistol, vox, flamer
2 infantry with commissar flamer, vox
any help or comments are welcome
Well most people would advise you to take lots of units with meltaguns in Chimeras, and they'd probably be right. It seems that mech-heavy is the way to go these days. If you ask me, just go oldschool guard and take masses of infantry with autocannons and grenade launchers like you have (they're the best all-round squad setup) and you'll be able to overwhelm any marine army with pure firepower. Autocannons are great for taking out AV 10-12 transports. Then fill out any spare points with your favourite tanks, or maybe even get Valkarie(s) or Vendetta(s) to scoop your squads up and deposit them on enemy objectives in the final turns. Consider taking Marbo, people like to use him as a one-shot punch against marines who've just had their rides blown up.
Also, a lot of people would frown on taking a plasma pistol on your officer, cause with his low armour save he runs the risk of killing himself. If you think plasma is cool and you have the points though, go ahead.
Ap 3 (and ap 3 template weapons) are your friends when fighting Space marines, Demolishers, LRBTs, collosus',hot shot lasguns e.c.t.
But... its not good to specialise, it might make the game less fun for them or even you. Make a balanced all comers list and you should still win a lot, but not too much.
One of my friends quit the hobby because he just couldn't beat anyone, its just not fun when you make other people quit because you can't let them win once in a while.
hey guys thanks for the responses ive got a fair good idea atm what ill end up taking not looking for too tank heavy only want max 4 (transport reasons) but i can fix that by supplementing some of the autocannons for lascannons lol
should have a list up soon for review so till then thanks again for your help
