just started warhammer and decided to go for guardsmen. planning on my list beforehand and wondered if it was any good - is it?
HQ - Company Command Squad - 80
vox and regimental standard
Veteran squad - 90
- 3 grenade launchers and vox
Veteran squad - 100
- 3 meltas
Veteran squad - 145
- 3 plasmas and grenadiers doctrine
Infantry Platton - 255
Platoon command squad -35
Infantry squad - 60
Infantry squad - 60
Infantry squad - 100
- autocannon, vox and commisar
Valkyrie - 140
-multiple missile pods and heavy bolter sponsons
Vendetta - 130
Leman russ battle tank - 150
Leman russ demolisher - 180
Leman russ executioner - 230
- plasma cannon sponsons
My plan is plasma and melta squad to fly in the vendetta and valkyrie and be my early assualt team taking out tanks and other elite units. the valkyrie and vendetta can fuffil the same jobs and the veteran squads and can also be covering fire while the tanks rumble forward. the infantry platoon can be used to hold objectives by combining the 3 squads and the remaining troops will aid the infantry platoon.
Any questions or thoughts?
thanks in advance
No... I wouldn't suggest this list for anyone wanting to play 40k competitively.
Veterans should really be in chimeras, meltas and plasmas need it to get into range and to keep alive.
You have to many unneeded upgrades, thing about what the squad/tank is doing... if its shooting at tanks it doesn't need anti-Inf weapons and the same the other way round. Remember, more troops is better than slightly better troops for guard in most instances.
regimental standard is a waste of points.
Vendettas are better than Valkyries, SWSs with 2x flamer and demo charge or 3x demo charge should go in these.
You should put weapons on your CCS, if their giving orders you should put them behind your inf, give them an autocannon and camo cloaks for increased survivability.
I think sonoftheemperor may be being a bit harsh, there are certainly some problems with the list but its on the right lines.
HQ: first off lose the vox system its uneccessary but personally i would keep the standard, if it keeps one squad from running, and it probably will, it will have comftably made its points back. I would also suggest putting some weapons in here to make use of the bs4.
Troops: get rid of the grenade launcher veterans, and switch the plasma vets to melta vets. If your putting them in your air support I think thats fine, it means that they get to the tanks faster than when in chimeras, its how i run them and it works for me.
In the platoons lose the commissar, give the squads a special weapon as well as autocannons and the command squad something like a mortar, which it can still use even if its hiding and giving orders.
Fast Attack: two vendettas is proably the way to go but the valkyrie certainly has its uses especially if you fight armies with more men than tanks on a regular basis.
Heavy Support: Fine, the executioner can be utterly brutal in the right circumstances but you might want to consider switching it out for another LRBT or a manticore to save you some points.
Overall not too bad especially if you make some changes, what son says is true, more troops is better, and hopefully if you make some of the changes mentioned you might have enough to squeeze another platoon in there...
Valkyries aren't bad, just give them missile pods. Leave all other options off.
