Hi I have been playing the Tau recently, and lost. I hope some of you could help me put
together a better army list. As a side note, could you please rate the ironclad dreadnought and land raider redeemer. Thank you for looking at this.

But they may get blasted before they can close as they cannot assualt on the deep strike.

I wouldn't bother with the storm bolter - usually a combimelta for me, or combiflamer. Both have a portion you can assault with after firing but with a bit more kick than the stormbolter, and it doesn't leave you with 2 points at the endHQ. Chaplain with digital weapons 110ptsAlways take the free heavy weapon - a missile launcher shot when you can stand still is better than an extra bolter shot over one or two rounds (as you'll be firing on the move at 12" anyway, you can just use a bolt pistol). Venerable Dreadnought. 165ptsDrop these (they're pretty useless walking, and a massive risk deep striking), use the points to pay for a standard dread in a pod, and the other upgrades.Elites. If you don't have enough points, maybe swap the venerable for an iron clad.
This way you get the 2 dreads in turn 1, and they'll kill a nice chunk of 1500 points before they die. Then the tactical squad comes down later to clear off and hold any objectives The other tactical squad holds a home objective and moves forward in the Razorback (with your captain) in combat squads, and the terminators/assault squad can cause mischief elsewhere...
It was a good list, you just needed a bit more punch to the squads, and your lone tactical squad in the pod would have either had to drop down in your deployment zone or get mullered by the enemy on their next turn. If the assault marines don't work out, drop them and the Terminators for another Tactical Squad in Razorback, plus short ranged upgrades for your dreads.
Hope that helps - it's not a standard SM list (I don't think there is one) but the core is fairly common as it works well.
Hey man, I just made the same switch 6 months ago after i realized that Tau are overpriced for ok stats but that is for another time. I don't know what models you own but here is a pretty successful list that i ran for a while until i ended up where i am now adding cheesyness to my army. The list is pretty straight forward, Combat Squad your Tac Sqads, outflank Khan and bikers, Assault Marines, and both Combat squads with one on foot, and the other in the razorback with melta and power weapons. Sit back with the pred and Lascannon combat squads and kill tanks while your dread and Vindicator moves to take an objective or protect yours. Tip, Try and deploy objectives as close to the edge of the board as possible that way you can hit whatever squad is holding the objective the first turn you arrive. I know that you might not come in on the side that you need to but thats the luck of the dice, luck, and you can rape face, no luck, and you can get chewed apart piecemeal or draw depending on the situation. (! Bikes are troops because Khan is on the bike and they are a 5 man squad!)
