I may be mistaken but I thought that you could put command squads on bikes. Also tactical, or scout squads in my opinion a must, even in a bike army. I think with all those twin-linked bolters you can deal with infantry, maybe the points for the whirlwinds could be better spent on some anti tank firepower.

    You can.

Why? Slow units like that have no place in a bike army.

You mean like 6 meltas and 3 multimeltas?

The only thing I'd change would be to add powerfists in the squads, meltabombs are useless against MCs and pretty rubbish against walkers.

The list is a solid start, though you could easily shave a couple guys off of each squad of bikers and not loose efficiency for it, this'd give you points for a powerfist in every squad. I also suggest trading in the Attack Bike squads for Typhoon Speeders, as those can basically handle everything short of terminators and land raiders (which the bikes can do just fine). You may also want to consider a unit of Vindicators - they'll die fast, but they'll draw a lot of fire in the first couple turns, which will give the rest of your army that much more time to complete it's objectives.

@RC - the purpose of the Tactical squad is to give you something that can safely camp objectives in the back, and can also climb ruins to engage targets on upper levels. Bikers can't do that. I also take them to give me a place to run Vulkan with, who I've been including in my biker lists in larger games.

Currently (s)he has no vehicles that require LOS to the enemy for it to be useful - so I'd steer clear of the LS/Vindis, but otherwise your advice is good.

That's working off of the assumption that there's sufficient terrain to hide everything behind, and that the enemy isn't outflanking or deepstriking anything, or playing a hyper-mobile army like the Eldar or Dark Eldar....but yes.

Well in that case drop the tanks all together and make a pure 'bums on seats' list - screw you lascannon!

Forget the scouts (unless they're on bikes too), How 'bout a land-speeder? That'd beef things up a little...

In fact one of those new landspeeder troop carrying things with some scouts on would make a decent objective camper-van! (I forget what it's called now...ah yes the Land-speeder storm! It "deep-strikes" too).

If it were a dedicated transport I might be interested, but as it isn't I don't bother (although I did use it to snatch a late game objective once, the look on my opponents face was worth ~150 points)

    I can imagine....

Well, maybe a drop pod??? I'm not a marine player, so I don't know if this is legal, but drop pod with tactical marines in?
