    2000 Nilla Marines

    Hey fella's I must confess I have been a mega Fantasy player for some years now, but I want to get stuck back into the 40k madness!!

    I am initially looking for help setting up a basic army list to take on all comers and have fairly balanced components.

    My models so far include:

    1 Terminator Chaplain
    1 Commander
    5 Terminators (Unassembled)
    5 Vanguard

    1 Dread (Unassembled)

    5 Assault Marines
    10 man Tac squad
    10 man Tac Squad (Unassembled)

    5 man Scout Sniping squad

    5 man Devastator squad


    Can anyone point out What I will need to add to this to take me up to 2000 and offer some form of competition to my opponents?

    Tanks and transports, mostly. Plus some light support units like speeders or bikers (if you go that route, I suggest considering buying a couple Ravenwing battleforces, which also give you the option to run a Bikers army)

    I'm thinking of taking 2 Rhino's for my 2 Tac squads, using a drop pod for my 10 Assault marines. And potentially a Land raider to march up my termies + Chaplain. Sound any good?

    In my armies current form I use 2 Rhino tact squads.. they work pretty well cuz they get into krumpin' range really fast... which is nice. I use 10 Assault marines with the jump packs but a Drop Pod may get them into position better. If you use the terminators another thing you could do is slap a locator beacon on that and then you'd get those terminators there safely if you don't stick them in the LR... haven't played enough games over 1000 points to know what other advice to give but good luck!

    If you're going with cheap 10 man tactical squads then i suggest you take a flamer and one of the free heavy weapon choices. I also suggest you take extra armour for the rhinos, as they wont be firing you'll need it to keep them moving each turn. Do you really need two HQs? If not then ditch one of them. Make sure you choose which role you want the dread nought to perform. Anti-tank? Then go for either twin-linked lascannon and missile launcher, or perhaps two sets of twin-linked Autocannons. Anti-infantry? Assault cannon at the very least. For the devastators you need to decide what they will be doing as well. Either go for a mix of general anti-infantry and anti-tank or just one specific role. Don't just put 4 random heavy weapons in the squad, remember multi-melts are restricted to 24 inches.

    They'd drop more accurately, but then have to resort to footslogging it across the table. Jump packs are awesome, don't throw them away

    Well here is what I have so far... In respect to having so many HQ choices, I wanted to take the command Squad + Captain for Fluff reasons. Aside from this I am really looking for tips on what equipment works best for the units as I have no real idea!!! Following that If there are any major alterations I would like to squeeze extra armour on my Rhinos!

    My Overall plan is too Firstly:

    Stick the two Tactical squads in their Rhinos and zoom them up-to a good firing point.

    The Terminator and Command Squad + the Captain are going to take the Land Raider Transport to get stuck in and have a little cover at the same time.

    The Assault marines are going to be fotslogging/jumping forwards asap along with the Chaplain.

    The scout squad will be sniping away at anything dangerous infantry wise.

    The Devastator and Dreadnought are there fore Anti-tank purposes whilst all of these fella's move up.

    Yeah no worries Rabbit, I have sort of dual threaded in that respect and have this army list on the actual army list threads. Might be easier to just close this thread if need be.
