Hey everyone this is my first imperial guard list (3rd army) and after reading the codex and reading some thing on the internet i think i have made something cool. I really dont know alot about guard but this is what i have come up with thus far.
HQ- CCS w/ vox caster, auto cannon, camo cloaks and carapace armor- 100
As you can see i am a bit confused on these guys (i think i am) and figured i will just sit them back and give orders to the blobs to make their heavy weapons more effective. Not sure if camo or carapace is necessary but its just a first draft.
Elite- Marbo- 65
This guy seems pretty cool and i always like to have something sneaky, although it seams you have to hide him for the first turn he is on the board.
Troops- 2x Blob-
PCS- vox, AC- 45
IS- Vox, AC, Commisar- 100
2x IS- AC- 60
I think i got these down, AC seems like a good choice dure the amount of rhinos around and commissars will smash some skulls if they try to high-tail it.
3x Veteran Squad-3x melta- 100
3x Chimera- Hull flamer- 55
Seems like these are what everyone uses now, i just didn't want to do full mech so only 3 for taking objectives and killing tanks.
Fast- 2x Hellhound- smoke, hull flamer- 125
These guys are not squadroned. I plan to use them to burn stuff and protect the sides of the chimeras.
3x armored sentinels- lascannon- 210
No doubt that i will be using armored sentinels because i already bought 2, las seemed like a good idea while still not too expensive, maybe i will get plasma and drop marbo but again its the first draft.
Heavy- 3x Griffon- 75 each
WHAT NO RUSSES!? No, im not crazy about the Russ model that much so i decided to try and make a list without them, i will add them if i can be convinced. I think the griffon is good because its cheap and accurate and i enjoy actually killing stuff in the game not scattering 1/2 the time.
Well das all tell me what your brain is telling you to scream at me, just dont scream please you'll scare me away.
It's a solid first swing at a hybrid list. I would drop the vox network personally, as well as the carapace on the CCS. The points would be better spent, in my opinion, on grenade launchers for the infantry squads. If you can manage the points, I'd throw 2 grenade launchers into the PCS squads. The prevailing consensus on HWs is that a mix of 50% Lascannons is desirable to deal with MCs. Your Armored Sentinels may or may not address that. You might consider Hull MM on your Hellhounds to offer some threat to AV 13+.
I hope this helps.
Praise the Emperor and pass the promethium!
Thanks for the reply, i will edit it and repost
Ok heres version 2 with some added anti-heavy infantry
HQ- CCS- AC, 2 GL- 70
Elite- Stormtroopers- 2 PG- 115
Troops- Platoon 1- 280
PCS- AC, 2 GL
IS- AC, GL, Commisar
IS- Ac, GL
IS- AC, GL
Platoon 2- 320
PCS- LC, 2 GL
IS- LC, GL, commisar
3x Vets- 3x melta- 100 each
3x Chimera- Hull flamer- 55 each
Fast- Hellhound- Hull HF, smoke- 135
Hellhound- same- 135
3x armored sentinels- plasma cannons, camo netting- 255
Heavy- 3 griffons PEW PEW
The issue I can see with this list is that griffons are designed to hide behind things and fire from cover and you have 3 of them... this raises two issues.
1. will there be enough places on your board edge to hide 3 griffons that allow you to hit enough of the enemy?
2. as they are hiding, you're exposing two hell hounds (with less armour than the codex says - check the FAQ) and the three chimeras to all ofthe enemy's AT firepower. You are relying on those veteran squads to get to their destination, armour 12 isn't that high.
If you changed the griffons for russes (lets ignore points values for a min) then the russes would be out in teh open safe behind their AV14 hulls. The enemy would be shooting at the russes with lascannons/equivalents and moving their melta weapons towards those. That gives your veterans more time to move their chimeras around and get into the positions you need them to be in. Even if you just swapped a single griffon for a russ and found points for it from somewhere else, you'd get a little of this effect and it would let all of your other armour have a little bit of an easier time.
Just a thought

i Understand i think i will get two russes and put them on the opposite side of the board. draft 3 soon
I think that I have to disagree with waddywoos on this one. The 3 Griffons will allow you to engage 3 targets where a Russ will allow you to engage 1. The only place you have to pull points from is from your troops. You already have 2 platoons to act as protection for artillery assets. Additionally, if your opponent is shooting at your Griffons, instead of your troops, he's helping you win. 75 point units are eminently disposable, scoring units are not.
