10 man sternguard
2 Heavy Flamers
LST - HF/MM
LST - HF/MM
I moved my list around recently and freed up a whole 105pts..
Now my question is, what do you think my list LACKS..
Anti-AV, Anti-MEQ, Anti-Horde, Anti-MC/IC, Mobility?
What does this list lack the MOST, and i can spend those 105 points towards THAT goal...
AV wise..Right now i've got 11 Melta shots, 3 krak missiles, 2 Lascannon shots, and an autocannon to deal with AV...
Horde wise.... i've got ~23 shots per turn that deny 4+ armor saves at 30" or greater, and the heavy flamers and melta's that deny them at varying closer distances
MEQ wise....I've got plenty of long distance multi-shot multi wounders to force saves aswell as a couple weapons to deny saves...Nothing CC oriented, but i'm depending on my marines to ATLEAST thin the ranks before CC so the standard marine can do his job..
Mobility wise...i've got the razorbacks and drop pods aswell as Land speeders.....If i use gate on the librarian i can use a last turn gate to contest objectives
What of those do i need MORE help in...and hopefully some suggestions as to what to spend that 105 on..
move points around and get a rifleman dread?
upgrade some razorbacks to TLLC's....
another pred-destructor with HB's....
Thanks for reading, all input is welcome.
It looks a good list. Have you thought about replacing the HQ with Vulkan making all your meltas and flamers twin linked? He is handy in combat too.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
If you can free up the 20 points, a rifleman would be a solid pick. You could also take a Typhoon speeder and a couple toys scattered around, or 2 MM attack bikes.
Even a small team of sniper scouts wouldn't be all that bad, really.
Your list is very good already.
I would not advise you to take a single rifleman dread. All alone he would perhaps be a too obvious target.
A typhoon speeder would give even more punch to your list and would be solid pick. On the other hand a pred might be a good choice.
How effective are 2 preds in a 1500 list?
I have 2 anti-tank anti-horde speeders already, and 3 i feel would be asking to en massed small arms fire making them target priority..
I could get a 2nd pred in destructor trim...or a whirlwind...However with the list being a push foreward, the whirlwind might not be useful in the later turns...However not moving and shooting can hurt that pred aswell..it's almost like picking which one will hinder me..less..
Doubling up on a unit that has a high theat potential, is never a bad choice. This makes that your opponent will be forced to split his attention between these two units, or focus his firepower on one of both, leaving the second one at least one turn longer to do his job.
Yes, I'll generally have two tanks in 1500pts list, sometimes even 3. It all comes down to your playstyle though. If you want fast moving firesupport that presses forward, a typhoon speeder might be a better pick.
Personally, I prefer to take two units with the same load out. As an example, a single rifleman dread is a very obvious target. By taking two of them in your list and deploying for example one on the left and the other on the right, your opponent will have a harder time claiming coversaves from their fire. This is a lesson I learned in the course of the years. While one unit can perform in your list, it is easyer for your opponent to avoid it. By taking two, the units will perform more consistently and it will make it harder for your opponent to deal with them. However, the units you choose must fit in the synergy of your list. That is the most important element to have these units performing correctly.
Ok one last question, i also agree with your idea of taking 2 of the same units to draw cumulative fire away from the one....Not only does it split fire and down likeliness of EITHER being taken down, too few a enemy for me these days remember to focus fire on priority targets, so they sit and take useless pot shots at them when they can...
Now, what is your take on SIMILAR units that fill somewhat different roles but have the same strengths...
so to speak..A predator that accels at taking out av10-13 units.....And a predator that accels at at dishing out dakka..
That way i'm not really left high and dry with 2 armored vehicles that only shell out 4 shots a piece..
What i'm saying is Auto-las pred, and a destructor pred, both capable of holding up to some gunfire, and with good reach, but doing different jobs..
Well both are tanks but their role for your army is different. While one is focussing on AT duty the other one focusses on infantry or very lightly armoured targets. Both thus are a very important part of your list. Thing is that they can often find themselves out of position to engage the target you had envisioned for them. That is the risk you face when focussing a single unit to a task. When fielding dakka preds, I take two, but I'll get my AT from somewhere else. It all comes down to how all your units work together.
Ok...so based on my current list do you have enough av to be able to reliably drop the auto-las in favor of a shooty pred? Or should I keep it as is and add some razor back fire power
I wouldn't drop the LC/AC pred in the list.
The list itself is very good as said before, but it is tailored to your methods.
Personally, I'd want to have something to draw some attention away from that single pred. You have several threats on the field, which is very good, but I feel that the single tank might be vulnerable. The razorbacks are fine for firesupport but their AV is not that resilient. As a compromise, perhaps you could take a typhoon speeder, giving you duality. low AV value, but they are always high on your opponents threatlist. Their ability to fire their frag missiles as defensive weapons can be very convenient too.
