There's five of us in the house at the moment, all of whom play 40k but with work during the week and all the other things folks want to get done at the weekend we don't really get much time to play each other at big fun games. So I suggested and everyone agreed to a 600 point 40k League. Each game shouldn't take much more than an hour in the evening after work so we can get more games in.
Here's the force I'm planning on running, any thoughts?
Smite, Machine Curse
Total HQ: 100 points
Tactical Squad I
5 Extra Marines, Missile Launcher, Flamer
Tactical Squad II
Total Troops: 335 points
Vanguard Veteran Squad
Sergeant Power Fist, 4 Power Weapons,
Total Fast Attack: 265 points
Total Points: 600 Points
I'm not much for metagaming, I prefer to build my force to be able to hold its own against anything that's thrown at them, and with this list I have 3 Troops (after combat squading) to capture objectives, and the 3 transports to contest them. My Librarian's Machine Curse and the Missile Launcher can provide 2 anti tank shooting attacks, while my Vanguard Veterans can deliver the punch in close combat if necessary.
Would you guys be following the old Combat Patrol rules?
-No model with more than 2 wounds
-No model with a 2+ save
-No vehicle with more than 33 armor (adding up Front, side, back)
-FOC: 0-1 HQs, 1+ Troops
I think that speeders could do very well in here given the amount of fire they put out. though expensive I can see typhoon speeders dishing out some serious damage at this pointlevel.
Scouts are viable as a second troop choice. If you can squeeze in tellion in a unit of sniper scouts, he can easily drop troops or hq's with his ability.
Tellion would be a powerful addition here - he can easily drop squad leaders and specialists, who would be quite important in a game this small. Typhoons would also be great, since the enemy really wouldn't be able to get anywhere near them.
Also, check your math. Your army adds up to 700 points, not 600.
