Here's a list I brewed up - kind've speaks for itself, just wanna make sure its legal.
1000 - Catachans
Company Command Squad 145
Guardsman Marbo 65
Infantry Platoon 430
Platoon Command Squad
-sgt w/ power weapon
2 Infantry Squad
-1 flamer in each
2 Special Weapons Team
-3 demolition charges
1 Heavy Weapons Team
-3 missile launchers
Basically its a foot-slog Straken list but with 2 Valkyries flying in Special Weapon teams in with 3 demo charges each (obviously a suicide mission). and the Valk (if it survives) can launch its own pieplate.
If it comes to it, I'll hold the valks in reserve and outflank them, if they come in w/ Marbo, I'm lookning at 9 str 8 pie plates that will prolly blow me up also.
After the dust settles, I've got Harker in the bushes with snipers, and Straken running forward or to objectives with his men and 3 missile launchers picking off av10-12 rolling around while I get off (hopefull) 2 more hellstrike missiles.
It's quite legal (assuming your points are right)
It could be fun to play, it could be fine tuned, but each to their own!
- I really do have a solid dislike of the snipers with harker. I'd much rather:
A) put in assault weapons (and shotguns) and outflank and charge with them, # very themed # OR
give them a squad heavy bolter, deploy them in cover and churn out HB shots (with what is camo cloaks)
I'd drop Straken he is not needed at this point level and the valkyrie heavy bolters as they are not great and will slow you down.
The valks need multiple rocket pods, their missiles are utter crap. So i'd give one valk the rocket pods and make the other a vendetta to help get your opponent out of his transports before you nuke his infantry with your special weapon squads.
I'd also switch harkers vets to having grenade launchers, they are much better all around weapons and can be fired on the move, they can also help you supress transports and put down more of those templates you love so much.
That should leave you with enough points to get harkers veterans an autocannon, switch your platoon commanders power weapon to a fist (he'll probobly strike last anyway) and buy an autocannon armed scout sentinel.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
True, and definately far more competitive but i was thinking he wanted to use all the catachan models for the theme
To tailor the list and still keep it themed (but more competitive) i would:
A) drop the ML HW squad.
with those points i'd:
upgrade both valks to vendettas (Many people abhor HB's, but I love them, makes a anti-tank unit anti infantry too)
Upgrade strackens squad to have a couple of flamers
sniper rifles to grenade launchers. and yep, AC is far superior to HB's, but it's themed - look at the catachan box, and it compliments harker. same cost, so up to you.
The PCS can also have a couple of flamers / upgrade the power weapon to a power fist - you're hitting last anyway
