I dont play competitivley or tournies etc. Just a few games with a friend when we get the chance. I have finaly got my list to the point where im happier with it.

This is currently my entire vanilla marine army.
The captain goes in with the sternguard in the DP, the termies deep strike using homers. With Tigurius i can get my reserves more or less when i want them. I infiltrate my scouts, and use the homers to give me 3 options to get the terms where i want them depending on the situation. Tigurius can use GOI to get to the pod quickly and help out there. I dont have any special weapons in the 6 man bike unit because i dant have any spare weapons at this stage.
Im thinking that podding the StGuard in and DS the termies gives me a hard hitting strike, coupled with the bikes being able to rush in I should be able to inflict enough casulties so the the rest of the force can move in or hold objctives on my side.
The scouts have shotguns, purely because i always wanted them, they die every game, but usually in spectacular fashion with shotguns blazing
At some stage i will max out the Devs, and add another 2 HS choices, im just undecided what i will take at this stage.
I also have another 2 tac squads setup the same that i can borrow, a land speeder with MM and AC, a dreadnought with TL LC + ML, 5 termies with HF, chaplain in termie armour.
I can swap these units out or use them in bigger games but they arent mine and haev a different colour scheme.

you are a little light on troops with only 3 squads and one being scouts. who btw are almost as expensive as 5 standard tactical marines but die so much easier. your plan for hitting hard and fast will usually turn out well. unless you get unlucky the amount of casualties caused and the fact that you have a drop pod and deep strike will keep your opponent from turning every gun in his force on you as soon as you touch down. you could always put the captain on a bike and that would make your bikes troop choices. however id recommend dropping the scouts and maybe the devastators for 10 more marines. the devastators while good on paper have always gotten into trouble in my experience. either their shot is blocked by your own men or they get into close combat somehow. they cant move then shoot either so you are better off with a predator with lascannon sponsons. finally if you do choose the devastators make sure you give them all the same weapon just to make it easier. missile launchers go well against say orks or tyranids while lascannons go a long way vs mech lists and other space marines.
Yeah i have thought that about the captain before, but im not a huge fan of the bikes, my army is ex-DA with a new colour scheme, so i bought the ravenwing box to boost the army quick and cheap. The scouts will most likely stay, i am aware as to how much they do suck at the end of the day, they are my "just for fun" unit who always get a giggle in-game. I did have a 3rd tac sqaud but i gave them away......I got my devs yesterday actually and yes i thought using the same weapon all roound would be best, ive taken PC's because i always play marines\eldar\necrons so they will help all the time, only "gets hot" will become a worry.
Thanks for the comments, i think i will get another tac sqaud at some stage though.
