Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I'm fairly new to guard and there's a tourney commin up so i wanted to try to hit dat chit up. Open to all suggestions, but the only things i currently own are alot of troops, 3 sentinels and a Hellhound/variants. all suggestions welcome as i would like to have a good idea of what to run before i buy buy buy. Thanks in advance
1 CCS: 140
1 Guardsman Marbo:65
1 Vet Squad: 170
3 Combined Inf Squads: 240
2 Scout Sentinels: 70
1 Hydra: 75
Tactica: CCS and Combi-inf stay on my objective or in the back with the Hydra, The wolf and the chimmy run around burn-a-natin. Sentinels and marbo disrupt, they should be able to pop rear transports and tie up some units in combat, marbo is just there to make some squishy unit on an objective eat a demo charge. The Chillin squads are issued orders, most likely bring it down, to make the las worth it and the plasmas not kill meself. Meltas are for that tank/Termies/Tyranid beasty that got too close for comfort. The Harker vets are to stay at arms length away runnin through cover and enjoyin dat save, and to throw a demo at whoever gets too close. They or the flamey ccs can take objectives, or better yet, marbo/sents can contest while i hold my own
Please feel free to point out any flaws in such tactica.
I'm Fairly new at guard, and i like Catachans(those are the models i use), but i realize untill you can take straken its kinda moot to do, and he would be a huge chunk o points here. before some troll comes in here and goes OMGWTFYOUHAZTANKSHERESYCALLTHEMSOMETHINGELSE! I am open to using a huge infantry based list if i could get it to work decently, but my tactics for using infantry guard aren't there yet. As soon as i work the kinks out in other lists i will post them here. Once again thanks.
Questions, comments and cries of madness encouraged and welcome.

I changed my list completely to reflect something i would rather play with would really like some criticism. thanks.
first of all, melta and lascannon does not fit in a single squad. often one of them will be useless.
Those meltas are going to be useless sat on that objective drop them or get grenade launchers to give the unit a bit of anti horde as well. Plus gl can hit mc's aswell. If it was me I'd downgrade to missile launchers as well saving a whole bunch of point which could net you near enough another squad and have dual effectiveness. Other than that the list looks alright. I've never used marbo or harker so don't really know their worth!
Well My thoughts were to drop the Apath and group the sents making only two reserve squads so i wouldn't need him as much. them coming in later can help me get more rear armor. Also thought of upgrading the sentinels to AC's.
Point taken on the squads,(if i drop the AP) i could either go GL's and Grab another Sentinel making 2 AC's and a Multi laser. (if me math is correct.)
i could go triple plasma, AC both of the sentinels, and give some sergeant somewhere a melta bomb.
I would love to drop the LC's for the ML's but as it stands nothing else really would be Heavy anti-tank. and if i would go to drop the flamers on the pcs in order to go melta, I would lose some anti infantry.
I realize this may not be the optimal list but any advice for tweeking helps. I want to be kinda minimal on the tanks, but still give enough options that the one i do bring isnt dead at the end of T1. And i know harker isn't the best sc, but I like him thematically, and im keepin him and marbo =P.
Sadly, i discovered today doing some mathammer that a LasCannon is not really anti-tank.
Yeah it looks awesome on paper but...
-half the time, it will miss it single shot
-if you hit, you need to score 6 (that's 16%) to score a penetrating hit, 5 to glance but it is still meh (considered AV14 of course)
If you want to crack a mid-level armour, say 12-13 LC is ok. But for tougher shells the only safe way is S10 ordnance or melta at half range.
Autocannon outshine Missile launcher for sheer transport destruction, but missile launcher is FAR FAR better in destroying what was inside them, if you need.
Well it would give me something for av14 as i have no other way currently, but its more for transports. I figure that between the hydra and the LC's (twin linked due to bring it down) i should be able to pop 2 mediumish transports first turn. (for heavier transports there probably isnt more than two at 1k) That will hopefully give me another round of shooting as whateves was in it is now running across the board, so turn two i can focus on the LR(if applicable). Lets face it, im not firing on a monolith, 'crons are too squishy, and the LR is just about the only other av 14 thing thats a toughy. (battlewags are open topped, so even a glance works there) I can then devote fire to it second turn or if i get lucky the harker vets can hug it with a melta bomb.
Hopefully my explanations will clarify some choices, but if there are still any glaring flaws yall see feel free to point them out.

Medusas have the power to destroy anything with ease.
I thought of trying to field one, but my concern is that with the small number of tanks i have its going to have a giant KILL ME ON TURN 1 sign attached to its back. At least with the hydra, it will be sitting in the back behind my lines behind my infantry blob(and hopefully also in cover.) Medusa's have to just march forward and hope they dont get AC/LC raped by all of the enemy's shooting.
The medusa has never let me down but I always tend to keep it in cover when firing anyways another thing I noticed is that your 30 man blob squad doesn't have a commissar in it. It would really suck if they lost 25 percent of their forces and you failed a moral check and they ended up dying by going off the board. You might consider splitting the infantry squads if your not taking a commissar into 10 man squads that way your opponent would have more units to fire at and more of your units could fire at different targets but that's just my opinion. Another thing is that your platoon squad is in a chimera. I would put the company command squad in it. Plasma shooting from a chimera is pretty deadly.
