Salamander 2000 pt Core Army - restarting big

Although I'm restarting 40k again after a hiatus of about 4 years, I like to build my army up to the largest block I'd realistically play at and then remove components for smaller games. This makes it feel more like a coherent theme, limits the purchasing, and allows for better in-game skill-building. Build it right the first time!

    Here's what I've come up:

    Vulkan He'stan - 190

    5 Assault Terminators with TH/SS - 200
    *Land Raider w/Extra Armor*** - 265

    2*Dreadnought w/Multi-melta and Heavy Flamer + Drop Pod - 150*2 = 300

**3 Tactical Squads of 10 with Flamer, Multi-melta
    Sergeant with Combi-Melta and Powerfist
    Rhino
    Total:240*3 = 720

    3* Landspeeder Tornado w/Multi-melta and Heavy Flamer - 70*3 = 210

    Vindicator - 115

    Total: 2000

*Which Land Raider model should I take? Although the Redeemer seems fluffy, I don't think its flame cannons get the boost from Vulkan (Multi-Melta does). I'm thinking the standard Land Raider with Lascannons would be good for early game shooting against transports and some longer range firepower that my army doesn't have.

**How are my tactical squad loadouts? Which load out is better Flamer, Multi-Melta, and Combi-Melta vs. Meltagun, Multi-Melta, and Combi-Flamer (5 more pts)? The only way to get the 15 pts for the second layout (Meltagun, Multi-Melta, and Combi-Flamer) is to drop extra armor on Land Raider....

***Is the extra armor on the Land Raider necessary? Seems like a good purchase to me since the cost / total cost of vehicle isn't much as compared with Rhino. I'd think the LR's cargo is so important that you'd want it to always be moving.

Overall, the Land Raider and Vindicator go together. Rhinos and Land Speeders could as well or the Speeders could hang back. Dreads drop down as necessary. Vulkan + 5 TH/SS termis should be able to handle most big nasty melee squads out there I would hope.

The Redeemer, definitely. And it GETS the boost from Vulkan. According to the new Grey Knight codex, the Flamestorm Cannon is a "Flamer Weapon" so, officialy, you get the TL special rule. And, yeah, the Extra Armor is worth it on the Land Raider. After all, it's a transport with shooting capabilities, not a moving shooting platform.

You *could* take Drop Pods instead of the Rhinos to your Tact. Marines, but that depends on your personal taste.

I'm actually leaning toward the Land Raider Crusader with Extra Arrmor and Multi-Melta. There's so much synergy there with the weapons and the transport.

I'm also thinking of dropping the Powerfists from my squads to save twenty points each. The number of attacks just isn't worth it.

Would the Meltagun, Multi-Melta, and Combi-Flamer be a good setup or would the Flamer, Multi-melta, and Combi-Melta be a better set-up?

I'm kind of partial to the Combi-Flamer since it's such a ranged-based game that I can't see the flamer being used multiple times....

You need a redeemer because you need more killing power. You have lots of anti tank, but you need more infantry killing, especially against marines.

Do you think the Vindicator is good as an escort for LRC or am I better off just using Predators to try to shoot my opponent's vehicles? Better to saturate with Vindicator, LRC, and Rhinos vs. 2 Auto/Las Predators covering the back?

Also, which tac squad setup? Mix of both?

use the Redeemer, but it does NOT get the vulcan's special flamer rule as per the errata/FAQ from GW. (specificly stated under question about vulcan) Even with out it, you don't have to role to hit, and its Str. 6 AP3, and yes get the armor upgrade, if your only running one of them, its going to draw alot of firepower. as to the tach squads, use meltagun/las-cannon, and combat squad them, use the las-cannon half to snipe with and transport the other half with your SGT. up to you on transports, with this list I would personally not pod them, but would look into las/plas razorbacks for your short range half of the squad. land speeders I personally use as disposable attack a high value target from deep strike, and you need to find somthing else to pod, to get both of your dreds into combat the first turn.

I run the LRC with my Vulkan list. The increased transport cap is nice if you ever want to throw in a couple extra terminators and the fact that you can move 6" and fire every gun is a huge help when facing hordes or even units like Mephy that are subject to die from weight of fire. If you are unsure of the Vindicator (I am not a big fan of them) you could drop it for 2 more Terminators (to go with your LRC) and change one of your Rhinos into a Razorback with a TL-Assault Cannon and change that squads Sergeant with Power Fist to a Power Weapon.
