Just putting out my latest Salamander army list for the local tournament.
Unit Wargear Points Cost HQ Vulkan He'stan *** Librarian Null Zone
*** Elites Assault Terminators (5) *** Land Raider Redeemer (Dedicated Transport) Multi- Melta 250 Dreadnought *** Dreadnought *** Troops Tactical Squad 10 Meltagun
180 Rhino (Dedicated Transport) ** Tactical Squad 10 Meltagun
180 Rhino (Dedicated Transport) ** Tactical Squad 10 Flamer
175 Rhino (Dedicated Transport) ** Fast Attack Landspeeder Multi-Melta
** Landspeeder Multi-Melta
** Landspeeder Multi-Melta
This is what i currently have. It's at 1800 points so i have 200 to play around with. The idea is to run the dreads behind the landraider/rhinos. Tactical squads will combat squad and assault weapons will go forward with rhinos while the ML sit back in cover and shoot.
A few things I have thought about adding are;
2 Thunderfire cannons.
1 Tactical Squad 10 Flamer, Combi flamer, ML and Rhino.
2 Autocannon/Heavy Bolter Predators.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'd drop one of the Speeders, and put the points into a pair of AC/LC Predators. You're badly lacking on long ranged firepower with this army. The leftover points would go into the Dreadnoughts - I'd suggest swapping the DCCW arms for TLAC arms for a little extra fire support as they move up the field.
I meant only one army on each dread - I've run a TLAC/MM dread a couple of times in Vulcan lists, and it does decently. If not, you've still got 20 points to burn though. I suppose Heavy Flamers instead of Storm Bolters would work as well.
The list looks good now; I like Ironclads for the role you're playing with your dreadnoughts though. Is the assault cannon going to get to shoot hiding behind the vehicles? I know they're more expensive but the extra DCCW and survivability will serve you well once you get where you're going. If you can find the points, that's the only possible upgrade I see.
All of your tac squads are 5 points too low, your rhinos are 5 points too high, and your Preds are 20 points too low. So you are currently over by 40 points. Other then that it looks like a decent list, but what will you cut to save 40 points?
But by my calculations they are correct. Tactical squad- Meltagun, combi melta and multi melta will be 180.
Rhinos with dozer blades are 40 points.
Predators, they could be wrong. will have to confirm when i have my codex to hand
Dozer blades would be enough to drop. Not that i want to.
The dreads have multi meltas not assault cannons.

The colonel is right, double-check your codex again for point costs.
Beyond that, I do think you have a good strong list. I think you'll have a little trouble where your dreads won't be doing much turn 1 or 2 (possibly turn 3, depending), and I'm not a big fan of tac squads without powerfists, as you'd be surprised how many dreads and mc's find their way to your backfield and cause you grief. Plus, a sunken power weapon in your tac squad makes such a huge difference to it's killy potential in assault.
