Well after some reasonable success at a tournament a few weeks ago with my 1750pts list (I came 4th and highest ranking GK player!) I am looking at making a 1500pts list for a tournament at the end of the month. I have a few ideas as to what I want to do which me and some mates have been play testing but I really can't decided which one I like the best.k so here is the first list, so it has all the things I like in it, Draigo to help the Paladins survive anti-tank weapons when they unload (and we know they will certainly be hit by a lot of them). My main concern is only have having two troops choices, lots of points in single models. Grand strategy might be slightly wasted on the unit unless I make the Dreadnought scoring. Draigo is expensive and if you are only using one unit of paladind drop him for a standard GM (who can make the paladins scoring with grand strategy) or just a librarian or a really cheap inquisitor and an extra GKSS squad. Same with corteaz - if you only have one henchman unit he could just be a normal =][=.
Paladins should take 2 psycannon and think about mastercrafting them. Also a single sword in a unit helps allocate power weapon hits to.

I think your looking at the use of the characters in a very narrow way, Draigo is a very good character that adds far more than just making them scoring, you have a guy with Eternal warrior and a Storm shield, that makes a massive difference when people start shooting your unit with melta guns, lascannons or basically anything that instant death ap2, your put a GM in the same situation and the unit will die, horribly, it also frees up your grand strategy for other things if you feel the need (like DE dark lance spam).
Not really a fan of the 2nd list, I would rather have 2 full strike squads, still I think coteaz is a amazing character for 100pts with what he brings to the table, thats before making hencemen troops.
I know what I want from a list, just hard fitting it all in, I think my the main thing I want to fit in a list is a stormraven loaded with a venerable dreadnought and a squad (most likely a strike squad), it works very well for me, if I have to choose between a SR and a Dread then its a dread, I want both, I like my Paladins but they don't work half as well without Draigo for the reasons I said above, its one of the units that will just absorb so much damage that by the time they die you should have picked apart the rest of the army. Whatever tries to take on Draigo and the Paladins should come out pretty damn battered.
The list works perfect at 1750pts, got me 4th place at the last tournament I went to and highest scoring GK player, my real problem is trying to downscale it into something that allows the tactical options I am happy with.
Hmm Draigo and 5 paladins or a cheap =][= and 10 paladins. I know which I would rather take. 275 points to get +2 invulnerable save on one hit per volley (he won't help much against a 3 melta guardsman unit for example). If your paladins are all armed differently there should be the odd chap who has taken a wound already for you to allocate S8 AP2 hits to.

That gets you 10 Paladins with stormbolters and a cheap Inquisitor, hardly that impressive, especially when people start forcing instant death ap4 wounds on him, I know I would and its not hard, his only use is psych gay grenades (which you can't afford btw), now lets say we have 10 paladins with this inquisitor, so now I have to transport them (because frankly walking would be stupid), I either need to now find points for another rhino or deepstrike some of them, now we have another problem, I've just removed psychic communion so if I go 2nd I now have a unit of paladins, a unit of strikes and a stormraven in reserve with little control over my reserve rolls, I'm not seeing this as a positive change.
My Paladins are armed differently bar one model, I am fully aware that changing a weapon or MC one would max the wound allocation, I can still allocate between 4 different guys as it is, as to your example with 3 melta guns, its going to be in reality 3 units firing, each causing 2 wounds, thats going to cripple the unit, you'll have one guy left if pass some invuns, slap draigo in a unit its actually only gong to be 2 dead (as you should pass one of the invuns) and a wound on draigo. Those units wont get another chance, they will be dead the following turn, I have enough firepower to do it. Now if I still have my heavy weapons, Draigo and a daemon hammer the unit can still function, it just has to get locked in combat, not hard if you split them and go far largish units.
After some test games however I think I will go with the coteaz based list, again not a spam list but it was fun to use, deathcults certainly seem very hit or miss but they do put the dear into people with all those I6 power weapon attacks.
Well I have decided to change the first post a bit, hopefully people will have some thought about what list to use rather than completely changing them, I am very much a person who has his own play style that works and I do not post list online so people can design my army, tweaking yes or bouncing ideas off, thats it.
