Just wondering your thoughts on a list like this, it'll mainly be against MC heavy nids but with a few warriors and termagants. I can be more flexible when it comes to other armies my friends own and this isn't competitive, so chimelta spam is generally gone.
- 2x Melta
- Chimera w/Mlaser
Infantry platoon Alpha, bravo and charlie (the three platoons are identical)
- Officer, no upgrades
- 3x Flamer
Infantry Blob A and B (also these two 20 man blobs are identical)
- 2x Lascannon
- 2x Grenade launcher
(there are a total of 6 of these squads, totalling 120 men!)
1495pts (not sure what to do with the last 5... maybe give one platoon command squad an extra flamer or something :/)
The idea is that from the triangle of MC lists work better on Mech lists, Mech lists work better on horde lists and horde lists work better on MC lists due to sheer numbers. So i thought, lets reduce the number of tanks as every time he'll bring a tyrannofex and pop them, old one eye always finds a way to get through to my tanks and his trygon is one of the worst. So me thinks that alot of guardsmen will ruin his plans quite a bit. No AC spam as i need to get rid of as many wounds as possible in one go as my goal is to shoot at one target until it goes down. e.g. shoot at walking units first then pummel deep striking trygons. Creed is there to make sure the guardsmen don't miss with "Bring it down" and to make sure he can hold the line when they get there
The manticore is there to get rid of those annoying warriors and gants who are a pain if i'm dealing with MC's and with the number of blasts i generally won't miss, and when they hit they mostly die. Kell also reduces the need of a Vox allowing
There are only two things i should look out for, firstly his doom of malantai, there is no defence against him, he makes sure that if i take troops he'll eat them, and if i take tanks to kill him, the MC's will punish me. So i'll just organise my troops so he gets as little as possible in terms squads he can reach.
The second issue are his outflanking genestealers, now if they attack a squad, that squad WILL die, no doubt, even with kells flag, they'll still run. This is why i'm not taking commissars, i want to lose so i get to shoot him in MY turn, and with the heavy flamer on my chimera and my PCS with their flamers, he should be toast. if he isn't then the heavy flamer on my manticore or a guardsmen squad will have to help out.
TL;DR everything here is made so that if one is assaulted, then it will run (but still live) and another can take out whatever hit it and i won't lose much if that unit is lost.
Comments would be nice
I guess this works, I dunno I guess just always invisaged plasma guns somewhere in an anti MC list but ye got so many units i guess they'll kill them eventually. And I like mass infantry ! yay!!
You could decentralize your HQ rather depend so heavily on Creed. Two normal CCS with standards will do a lot to ensure a steady supply of orders, though you'll need a vox net as well. It's worth losing a 20-blob to afford the change.
If you want to keep Creed then bring a second Chimera and park it (empty) next to his. He'll live longer with a spare bunker around. Bring a Fleet Officer to help with Trygons and genestealers.
Let your PCS carry the grenade launchers. That will give them something to do throughout the game instead of a single counterstrike. Besides, if they're doing charge followup then those gaunts will probably be in the open anyway.
Whimsical thought: replace the Manticore with a Basilisk. Thanks to being open-topped, Genestealers often think twice about charging it. Because of their poor armor, the typically explosive result can inflict a lot of damage while denying LOS-blocking wreckage.

i would take plasma guns but with so much infantry they'd start popping very quickly and i don't like how short ranged it is, i don't want to hope that 2 rounds of shooting will be enough to take out the sheer mass of MC he has. essentially twin linked lascannons are much more for me.
The main reason i took creed is because he has a huge 24" order radius so he can just be anywhere and offer orders, has 4 orders and can be awesome, kell is there cause i like the model and fluff behind the two, also saves me getting some voxes in PCS but from looking i could have the voxes without kell and have some points to spend for another chimera? that with the cheaper basilisk over manticore is a good idea, i just have a manticore model and i don't particuarlly want to spend a sum of money for a basilisk if i don't have to. (and my friends are very anal about modelling so i probably won't be able to proxy the manticore as a missle launching basilisk)
also, if the PCS is taking the GL what should the guardsmen squads take?
well im sort of new to IG so some of my ideas may seem stupid or wrong
i've always liked the idea of using Creed in my army and want my main IG army to be just blobs or soldiers with some leman russes to back them up
this is how i might play it:
drop the chimera and take an officer of fleet or what ever the -1 to enemy reserve rolls is and use Creeds 24'' command range to have him order all the IS blobs first rank fire, second rank fire and vaporise MC's under a torrent of las fire (question if you order a squad with a lascannon or any other weapons to do a first rank second rank do these weapons gain an additional shot, just wondering for future games)
i would also drop the manticor and take a medusa (a bit cheaper) or a leman russ demolisher, same strength shot but better AP
and thats my idea
funny idea with the lascannon as it is LAS, but it says in he FAQ that even hot-shot lasguns cannot first rank fire, so i doubt that a lascannon can fire like an autocannon without vapourising everyone within 3 yards of it
the medusa... eh, its good, but it is open-topped, and cannot indirectly fire which is good if he uses a hive guard (little hiding buggers!) and a demolisher being AV14 is a good choice but too short ranged for me, i need to get rid of any equal to or less than T5 models ASAP with nids and 24" is a bit too close and doesn't work out with my ranged lascannons, more so with lots of plasmaguns.
Also if i lose a chimera then my CCS with creed is very vulnerable, he is a huge asset and if he is seen he will be shot at cause he is a big advantage to my army. i don't know what to outflank really?
definitely take armoured sentinels and place them in your flanks! (maybe reserve them to wait for flanking stealers)
They are awesome as a tarpit (to be pen'd the stealers must roll a 6 and then a 3 for rending... quite unlikely eh? ) and they can really, really save your day.
to be de-tarpitted the genestealer blob must destroy(either wreck or explode) your armoured sentinel
they hit on 3+ IIRC, and suppose they are assaulting for the 1st time
3 atks -> 2 hits -> 0.33 6s (required to rend) -> 0.11 (3 on a d3) these are the penetrations expected for a single genestealer
which means a destroyed result probability of 0.037 (which means once every 27 attacks = 9 stealers assaulting or 14 after first wave!)
(they can destroy you after an immobilized and after all your weapons have been destroyed, remember)
i'd give it a try.
yeah i do have some of those and its generally a good idea, there's only one problem... he has a broodlord.
And i forgot to mention, we don't play standard rules, we play it so that it ends up with no turn limit and the objective is to dominate the table (last man standing), we also often have 3 player free for alls, sometimes 4. and we rarely do objectives, rarely. so i want to make it so that he cannot sponge inside my guardsmen squad in my turn in assault, so he can move onto the next in his cause after two turns of combat guardsmen will lose, an armoured sentinel just randomises when he wins combat and i don't like those odds. but it could be more fun
