Ok, so here is the deal. I am taking my GKs into an escalation league in my local area, mainly because it is the only 40k army I have at the moment and don't have enough money to start a new one for this league. The lists start at 750 and go up 250 pts each month until we reach 2000 pts so this will take awhile. Basic rules are you cannot change any portion of your list and only add to it. You can however add to additional units and upgrade them as time goes along but you cannot change the upgrades or take them away as the time goes on. In the beginning you have a very basic force org chart, 1 HQ, 2 troops, 1 Elites, 1 Fast Attack, 1 HS. As the months move along and we get another 250 pts, we also open up more force org slots. The first few months will be additional troop slots only and once we get to month 4 at 1500 pts do we get an additional 1 Elite, 1 Fast Attack, and 1 HS slots.
During each month we have 1 league game a week that will be tracked through the league. We are each put on teams with 2 additional people. This is going to be loads of fun!
Caveat: Because I play GKs my friends have asked me to take some non competitive options for this league because we have a lot of beginning players and I agreed with them so the list will be as optimized as it can be with non tournament unit selections.
So with this in mind, I would like some opinions on how this list can evolve over the next couple months and help me prioritize where to spend my points and when.
100 Brotherhood Champion
230 Strike Squad x7 (Justicar w/ Demon Hammer, 2 Halberds, 1 Psycannon, Psybolt Ammo, Rhino)
150 Strike Squad x5 (1 Psycannon, Rhino)
270 Purgation Squad (Justicar w/ teleport hommer, 4 Psycannons, Razorback w/ twin linked assault cannon and psybolt ammo)

Ok for a slight change to your 750pt list I would drop the Psybolts and a Halberd, upgrade the 5mans transport to a razor with psybolts, and take some falchions on the 7man to flesh out their attacks a tiny bit. I dont think the changes would be considered too harsh?
As for the next 250pts, I would say just add a unit of termies with psycannon, and maybe another body or two to the existing strike squads, to keep in line with the +1 troop and nothing too over the top. This will also give you a reason to take a Storm Raven the following week as a transport for the termies, again fun and not too over the top.
This sounds like a fun venture and I wish you luck
Thanks for the response poke, that is definitely the direction I will be headed in the next point installments. However, after playing with this list for the first time last night I tabled 3 different other 750 pt lists by turn 4 thanks primarily to the purgation squad (God these guys are awesome, where have they been in all my lists?). So, I am pairing the list down even more and de-meching myself for now. Now it will just be tactically more fun and challenging for me.
80 Ordo Malleus Inquisitor in terminator armour and psycannon
480 2x10 Strike squad w/ psybolts and 2 psycannons
185 1 Dreadknight w/ Heavy Incinerator and Sword
Hope this makes things a little more interesting for me and my friends/opponents
All I can say is
I think you are headed in the wrong direction there mate, I would much prefer to face the first list than the second. You may have de-meched yourself but you have strengthened the list from my point of view. Out of curiosity, what have your opponents lists looked like? what armies etc?
Ok so here is what I observed in those first three practice matches;
1st: All the competitive players are playing easier lists.
2nd: At 750 pts its really hard to face 7 psycannons with 1 being twin linked and 4 being able to shoot without LOS
3rd: My opponents found it nearly impossible to kill my three vehicles at this point level before I killed all their anti armor
4th: Nothing at this point level could stand up to the purgation squad. No vehicles could make the 6 or 7 pen cover saves to survive
The lists I face so far was an ork list: Warboss with nobs, 3 killa-cans, 3 defkoptas, 30 slugga boys, 10 lootas------I tabled this list on turn 3 effectively, killing his lootas on turn one by making them flee after 6 of the 10. Killed the Kans on turn 2 and killed the warboss and nobs on turn three. I took 1 casualty due to a perils test on the purgation justicar.
Space marine biker list: Captain, apothecary, melta gun, 2 bikes Squad 1: multimelta attack bike, melta gun, powerfist, 2 bikes Squad 2 same as squad 1--------Again not a strong list, its one of our regular tournament guys list but stood no chance against the 16 psycannon shots a turn and they couldn't even hide from them. Its the purgation squads ability to fire without LOS that is just killer
Sisters of Battle list: Cannoness and retinue, a relentless 3 multimelta squad, their version of a razor back, 2 10 man sister squads with 2 meltas each, and a 5 man sisters squad with rage-------again not too hard a list for me to beat
Other armies that I saw that didn't play was a blood angels list with a storm raven, furioso, assault marine combo. Another was a melta tack squad with librarian drop pod list and a predator. The last one I saw a salamander list with vulcan and lots of meltas
So the conclusion that I reached was that their was enough power weapons/fists/klaws and melta weapons that could take down the dreadknight and make it more fair since the purgation squad was just absolutely killer getting 13-14 hits a turn and then getting 10 wounds or 5 pens a turn.

Ok, well then we can agree that the culprit is the Purgation squad, so how about you stick with the first list, but replace the purgation squad with a dread (your choice of weapons), and a small 5man interceptor squad? If you need points just trim down the strikes, this will give you a nice fun variety of units to play with, and hopefully make the game more fun for all
We will see. I will write up both lists and submit them to my league coordinators and they can choose which one they want me to run since they were the ones who asked me to change it last night. I'll let you guys know what they say on saturday.
Alright guys so here is the list that I ran this Sat and will be using for the rest of the league as a basis to build on.
10x strike squad with 2 psycannons and psybolt ammo
5 terminators with 1 psycannon, 2 hammers, 2 halberds, and a stave
dreadknight with heavy incinerator
It did very well!
As it should against most friendly lists, it doesnt matter too much what we put down on the table we are always competitive
On the list - It looks like a great place to start, considering it leaves you with alot of available slots to fill in later weeks, good luck with the whole campaign mate, hope you have fun
