    1250 my first guard list.

    Hey all, I just picked up the guard codex yesterday, and this is my first stab at a list.

    1250: Imperial Gardai.

    CCS,
    -Power fist,
    -Heavy bolter team,
    -Plasma gun,
    -Regimental standard.



    Platoon Alpha:

    PCS,
    -x3 Flamers,
    -Krak grenades.

    -Chimera with multi laser and heavy flamer.

    Infantry squad 1,
    -Missile launcher,
    -Grenade launcher.

    Infantry squad 2,
    -Missile launcher,
    -Grenade launcher.

    Infantry squad 3,
    -Missile launcher,
    -Grenade launcher.

    Heavy weapons squad "Wasp,"
    -x3 Lascannons.



    Platoon Beta:

    PCS,
    -x3 Flamers,
    -Krak grenades.

    -Chimera with multi laser and heavy flamer.

    Infantry squad 4,
    -Missile launcher,
    -Grenade launcher.

    Infantry squad 5,

    For the CCS I would drop the HB in favor of an autocannon- matches the plasma better and is more all around versitile (Monters/light armour) than the HB for the same points.

    I like it other than the lack of mobility for objective games on scoring units- with the strong gun-line though you can hope for enough kills early you can use run orders to grab them late game. I would try and free up some points for another Chimera on a squad or two of scoring units.

    Thanks, that makes sense.

    Should I blob the squads together? Also can you stick the HW teams in with inf squads?

    PF: useless, sorry. You won't most probably ever hit if the CCS is in close combat.
    heavy bolter: i'd take an autocannon as suggested, OR 2x plasmaguns. i don't like much mixing weapons in the same unit.

    Standard: it will earn its point back, saving your HWT from fleeing after one casualty. keep your HWT in range!

    I'd take a 4th flamer instead of the kraks.

    I'd consider to switch these to 3x autocannons, so at the end you'll have 3x AC, 3x ML and 6x LC. remember you're BS3 and relying on single shot guns isn't wise. even if Twin linked!
    Heavy weapons squad "Wasp,"
    -x3 Lascannons.



    Platoon Beta:

    Don't squadron them, you'd better place them on opposite corner and force at least some side-shots. Consider a LC upgrade.

    Additional considerations:

    - Blobbing squads: if the game is on KP, yeah, always blob them. If the game is obj-based, i'd think about combining only 2 of them (so 2x + 1x in both platoons) to use the lone 10 guards as a first meatshield for who's behind or just another scoring entity.
    - Lascannon heavy weapons teams: they will be the top priority for your enemy to shoot at, and at 105 points each it is a juicy target to boot. Consider the possibility to bring them inside your Infantry Squads and pulling out the cheaper heavies you've there. Basically you should have 6x IS with a lascannon each, 1x HWT with 3x AC and 1x HWT with 3x ML.
    Think about it: is it better to twin link 3x lascannons at ld8 or 3x missile launchers at ld8? which gun can damage the most my enemy for 5 turns long? if you lose an HWT with 3x autocannons at turn 2, you hopefully already disabled enemy transports, so losing light AT weaponry isn't hurting much. Your LC are free to blast those nasty terminators! but the other way around is quite a disaster: you lost your lascannons at turn 2 and you're now left with AC and ML to handle AV14 / tough units!

    I agree with all of the above with the possible exception of the PF- I take them and sometimes they come in very handy but a lot of the times the bearer is dead before they ever get to strike... BUT I ran with PW instead and even if they hit with STR 3 they hardly ever wound so I stick with a PF or two for my lists (at this point level, only one).
