Oh, but I weep for my opponent. A relatively new player (but one approaching age 30!) at my LGS asked me to play a 1k (all he has) game or two against him this weekend. Ever obliging (okay, it made all the difference that he's a taxpayer, not a middle schooler), I not only agreed, I let him choose my army. To my surprise, he chose guard on the basis of not yet having faced them. Why surprise? Two of my other armies, tau and sisters, are far less common! Anyway, I'll go slow and patiently reinforce his understanding of the rules, as well as his understanding of his BT army, but my scaled-down-to-1k mech guard is going to table him. Repeatedly:
CCS with 3xPlasma and chimera
2xPCS with 2xMelta, kraks, and chimera
3xInf with AC and chimera
1xInf with ML and chimera
1k exact, 6 scoring chimmies, 8 vehicles, 20 heavy weapons, a pieplate, and seven special weapons in 1k.
Okay, played the game. DoW KP. Tabled him in four in exchange for one chimera. His list was illegal anyway, with only one troops choice. Plus, with 5 termies and a crusader, really horrible for a 1k list! So I explained all of the mistakes that I took advantage of and helped him with his list-foo. I'll play him again in a month...
