I have just recently began to start playing 40k again. This time my son has decided he would like to play also. He wants to play BA and would like to include stormravens, dreds and a LR if I can fit it in. I havnt played in awhile so my lists may not be as good as the possibly can be. Any help would be great.
So here are the 2 I have came up with.
Hq: Librarian jp,unleash rage and bloodlance
2x librarian furioso dred
10x assault marines 2 melta, powerfist 235 ( these will combat squad and go in stormravens)
5x assault marines melta, powerfist 135 ( these will join the Lib in a stormraven)
5x assault marines melta, power fist in a razorback with tl las 190
2x stormravens with assault cannons and hb
1x storm raven with lascannon and multi-melta
Baal pred no spons 115
Hq: librarian unleash rage and bloodlance
10x assault marines 2 melta gun, powerfist 235 (goes with the lib, and sang priest in the LRR)
LRR multi-melta, sl 251
10x assault marines 2 melta gun, powerfist 235 (these will combat squad then go in stormravens)
Sangpriest power wep 65
2x librarian furioso dreds
2x stormraven lascannon multi-melta 200 each
Vindicator with sl 146
I'm leaning toward the second list but both seem so good any help?
something I just found out. one thing, assault marines in stormravens doesn't really scream BA for me. Second thing, terminator armour can go in stormravens. I want to use this sqaud in a stormraven-
Reclusiarch, terminator armour- 160
5x Death company, 5x powerweapons- 175
sure its 535 in a storm raven but that's awesome. on average vs space marines they would dish out 15.80 wounds. goodbye terminators. Assault Terminators with 3+ save? still gonna kill on average 5.27. That is badass.
yea i dont realy see normal assault marines in a storm raven as being overly competitive. sure you wont take many casultya and if the raen gets downed you still have manouverability, but those squuads really lack much of the hitting power they need at these points levels. also libby dreads are not likely to make their points(blood lance is not as good as it appears due to secondary targets getting coversaves and lack of reliable range) blood talon furisos are far more fearsome and rightly have earned a name for themselves.
i would only consider a stormraven for a hammer unit or 2, so the likes of termis, death co, honourguard, sanguard etc.
I played around with the list a little tonight and came up with this.
2x furioso dred with bloodtalons in drop pods
3x 5man assault squads melta, powerfist in razorback with TL las
5man death company squad 4x power weapons in LRR, multi-melta
Death company dred with bloodtalons in drop pod
Vindicator with stormbolter
The reclusiarch will go with the DC in the landraider. The dc squad, 5 front armor 13+ tanks and 3 dreds should do pretty well i think seeing as you get to drop 2 of your dreds on turn 1.
few thoughts for ya on that(which i do prefer tbh) tl las on the razorbacks is only one shot, tis a nice shot but still. for the same points however you can get a las and tl plas. sure you dont get a rerollable las but i do really believe the tl plas more than makes up for that and then some. and being fast you can move 12 and have the option which you fire, or 6 and fire both...
and te death co i dont really think need 4 powerweapons, specially at 5 man and have a recluse who also has a power weapon. id want a fist or hammer incase you end up charging a veichle or dread(and with rage it is quite possible) so probably look at loosing a few powerweapons and getting a hammer or fist, and posibly even an extra member or 2..(plenty of space in the redeemer(personally i prefer a crusader like but tis a moot point) hope that helps...
I disagree with both points from nat01.
Yes you may want a powerfist or Thunder hammer, (I doubt it, because they will be able to pick their targets but who knows about random dreads being dropped.) but i would still keep the power weapons. Remember you're paying a lot for the ability to make sure your 4 attacks from your dudes all hit and wound, you want to make sure that armour saves does not hamper their killing potential, trust me a chaplain w/death company team means they deserve power weapons. Also, they wouldn't rage with a chaplain in squad so its a moot point (but lose fleet). Get 4 pw's and one TH for the squad and call it a day. Tl lascannons are fine, reliably hitting things is what you want, those 5 man squads should just be capping points and taking down light vehicles and staying 12-24" from guys to avoid being taken down, keep them moving, that's the beauty of being fast they shouldn't really engage anything unless they get cracked open.
Side note, give all your dreads heavy flamers, as you have nothing to avoid 4+ armour saves from imperial guard weapons teams or scouts with missiles, trust me you need some flamers. Ditch the vindicator its going to be useless with just one, and get some upgrades or another dread or assault razorback.
also i only count 4 av 13+? vindi, landraider and the 2 furisos in the elite section. the razors are 11 and the rest are 12 just so you know...
I meant ignoring the 4+ cover save troops gets, its good to have something to get them out, personally I like baal preds with flame storm. Don't know what you're talking about with the 13+ and stuff.
Yes I stick my chaplains with termi armour and stick them in the Death company. If you wipe out a tactical squad that's 170-230 in points you eliminated given no special characters or HQ and chances are even if you get shot by bolters next turn feel no pain and a 3 wound terminator in the squad helps medicate the losses. Death company are a sucker for fire anyhow but they get s*** done.
i agree with the flamers though i was just warning a caution cause the number of times ive seen the heavy flamer kill too many from the front disallowing it to charge is irratating...
the av 13 thing was in response to the op.
true on the death co too, (i love my termy chap) but its rarely small ars fire that is directed at them, usually its plas and melta or better wich ignores fnp, and termy armour for that matter. course a multi charge with the unit and the point will be moot though....(and i do love my multicharges...)
I proxied the above army and played a friend of mine who plays chaos. I'm trying to test the army before I buy it for my son as he is only 10 and has alot of learning to do. It did quite well but I don't kno how much I like the dreds. It wasn't that they didn't do what I needed I just felt like it was out of place so I came up with something a little different let me kno what you think.
Hq: Termi-librarian shield of Sanguinus and unleash rage
Elites: 5 man termi assault squad 2x TH and SS in a LRC with multi-melta (lib goes here too)
Troops: 4x 5 man assault squad melta, powerfist in razorback with TL-Las
Fast attack: 2x Baal preds with flamestorm cannon and no spons
Heavy support: vindicator storm bolter
I like this list alot tho I havnt played it yet so who knows. I either want to run the lib and termis or I will run a reclusiarch with DC like my previous list. I have 5 pts left that will probably be spent on SL for necrons.
