Okay, I found out that the local shop is having a 40K flash mini-tournament, and it's 400 pts rather than 500. Okay by me, I can start with fewer models that I have to paint. Has anybody ever used this list or something like it?
Captain with storm bolter and power sword (WYSIWYG)
5 Tac marines with plasma gun
5 Tac Marines with plasma gun
5 Tac Marines with missile launcher
5 Scouts with close combat kit
My main question is whether I need the missile launcher for it's S8 or whether the plasma guns will be able to handle the enemy armor and light tanks.
Instead, I could break off the storm bolter and put on a pistol for the extra attack. if I drop the missile launcher then I can use a plasma pistol. i kind of want to make use of his higher BS. He would then lead the 3rd squad that had nothing but bolters. if i did this I might replace one trooper with my Sgt model with the chainsword for a little more oomph in assault.
Another question--should I try to fit a flamer in there? Are they more useful in patrol games?
Thoughts and suggestions welcome!
well i think that you should stick to the missile launcher beacuse it is cool. sxchange the storm bolter with a pistol but not plasma. i dont know about you but ive overheated many times and it sucks.
i think it would do fine.
Those scouts are probably not going to be of much help, drop them in order to bulk up your marine squads. Otherwise, it is good.

Well, if you want to win, the most devastating thing you can field in a 400 point game is an LST. Between its maneuverability, the fact that its a vehicle, and its high firepower, it tends to be a game breaker in 400 points. I would highlly recommend going with it.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I don't have a LST but the very fact that everyone uses it because it's overpowered in a small game is kind of why I'm not going to include it. Besides, it's not stealthy and scouts are--and what's a patrol force without scouts, anyway? I think the scouts' infiltration ability and their close combat prowess are nice additions to the list.Originally Posted by Chaosbrynn
My main concerns come with equipment--I already have the models, just wondering what the best weapon configuration is. Eventually I'll have 750 pts and I can include an assault sqd and devastator squad, and then at 1000 pts I can include the Dreadnaught and Predator tank that look so cool!
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I'll post my 750 list and see what folks think...
Personally I'd drop one of those plasma guns for a ML, simply because it can be used in 2 ways and has a good range. Gaunt swarm? Frag em. Lone IC out in the open : krak'em.
