Ok. I know there are problems with this list, unfortunately, my 2000 list has had more attention cause thats the size i usually play at if im playing larger than 1000 points. As stands right now im finding that the terminators are a major points sink that are under the right conditions will win their points back, but more often than not become giant "SHOOT ME" targets for heavy weapons. What Im considering doing is removing the Wolf Lord unit all together, in favor of a Wolf Priest. This would allow me to take at least one entire extra Grey Hunters or Blood Claws squad. Im leaning toward taking the extra Grey Hunters, adding Wolf Guard Leaders to both GH packs, and taking a Predator Destructor. This modifications, as well as removing some pretty much unused wargear on the Rune Priest will bring me right to 1496 points. As I said before, Im trying to build a generalist unit that would be if not strong against everything, at least capable of fighting any type of army. Any advice/suggestions on weak spots i may be missing or different approaches would be appreciated. The Emperor Prevail!
You are right when you say that the Termies may not be a good idea. The HQ is too costly for a 1500pt game. Since you have to have 2 HQs try to not make them very expensive. One problem about space wolves is their lack of ability to have standing heavy weapons firing at enemy tanks. To resolve this you should put some landspeeders w/ Multi meltas in your list 2 at a minimum and get some scouts with melta guns, plasma guns, and melta bombs.
For equipment of your rune priest, i always take: Boltpistol, Frostblade, Belt of russ. 126 pts
drop wolf tooth necklace on you runepriest, it already has high weaponskill
with the 4th edition, you can give for your terminator with cyclonelauncher an closecombat weapon, since you dont need the targerter, give him a fist or powerweapon.
if you think the termi's are a pointsink, then drop them
buy a predator annhilator and some rhino's for your troops
give your rhino extra armor and smokelaunchers
i'd also rather have tanks then long fangs...
i hope this helped
The Wolf Lord's Retinue is way to points heavy. For the price you are paying you could have 3 10 man Blood Claws squad, which is 40 attacks in combat. I know which I'd rather have.
For HQ's in 1500 points I use 2 wolf guard battle leaders, there cheap and can carve through the enemy. It allows more points for other stuff.
Agianst tanks, landspeeders with multi meltas rock, there manuverability allows them to strike at anything on the battle field
Only a few prefer liberty - the majority seek nothing more than fair masters
Those changes you suggest yourself sound good. Why not draw out a new list with the changes?
And I'd stick the Wolf Guard with the Blood Claws, not the Grey Hunters. They are the offensive guys. Give the Wolf Guard a pair of lightning claws and a Wolf Tooth Necklace and these units will kick some serious ass.
And if you take a tank, I'd drop the Long Fangs for a second tank. You'll have 3 vehicles then, 4 if you put the 2nd Blood Claw unit in a Rhino too. Give the enemy either no or a lot of armour to shoot on is my motto.
With points left you could either take a unit of Wolf Scouts (great guys) or a Land Speeder.
Just to build on to other People: Your HQ is way to expensive. I personally recommend trying a Ven Dread/WGBL or the favored WGBL/WGBL. Like said earlier, give them BP/FA and put them in an assault squad to lead it and you've got yourself some pain to deliver.
If you mean lead a Blood Claws Pack bearing Jump Packs, that's a no-no. In the Space Wolves FAQ (V1.41) it states only Wolf Guard Pack Leaders may take a Jump Pack from the armoury, and may only do so if he will lead a Blood Claw Assault Pack.Originally Posted by LocoLobo

Heck no, as a true wolf, I only like fighting with both feet (and occaisonally, wheels) on the ground.Originally Posted by Pierced53

I love Assault GH packs. Run straight into somethings face blast at it with pistols and plasma pistols, and then CHAAAAAAAAAAAARGE.
Most of my GH packs are Bolter/PG though. I also usually use at least one Hidden PF in each pack.
