    500pts space marine starter army

    Hi,

    I'm just getting into WH40K and am looking at starting SM's at 500pt level.

    Here is my proposed starting list:

    HQ: Reclusiarch+bp=86

    CORE:

    10xSM's+plasmagun+missile laucher=170

    5xScouts (4xSnipers, 1 Heavy Bolter)=90

    10xScouts (9xbolters, 1 Missile launcher)=140

    Total=486.

    That leaves 14pts to do something with! The idea is to have a pretty flexible list able to deal with most things.

    So, any suggestions?

    OK at first glance, that is a nice starting list, plenty of troops, good options. BUT: things to consider:

    HQ: you HQ is the prefered choice of an assult army, he is most effective when charging, but the rest of your army is a shooting based army so consider (until you hit bigger points battles) trading him in for a captain

    Snipers: these guys are pricey, sure they hit and wound half the time, but people get their armour saves, this makes them a less than efficiet killing maching, they are best used against monsterous creatures: Elday Avatars and Wraithlords, greater demons, generally anything that relies on toughness and lots of wounds to stay alive.

    I would take one or 2 marines or scouts from your other 2 squads and use them to create another decent sized shooting squad or an assault squad. (the snipers can come out at 1000-1500 points armies)

    nice list, but I suggest a few changes:

    take cleanse and purify as traits and we stand alone as minor disadvantage.

    HQ
    Codicier
    -fear of the darkness
    -bolt pistol
    106 pts.

    Troops

    6 scout squad
    5x sniper rifle
    1x missile launcher
    113 pts.

    5 men tactical squad
    2x plasmaguns
    100 pts.

    5 men tactical squad
    2x plasmaguns
    100 pts.

    5 men tactical squad
    frag grenades
    bolt and ccw
    80 pts.

    499 pts total!

    the scout squad try to pin more enemy squads possible, the first two tactical squad kill infranty or light venichle and the codicier stays in the third tactical squad, used to assault everything

    I like that alot Von Ronanoff, nicely balanced and effective.

    The one thing is the Librarian with no invulnerable save what so ever, and FotD just makes the people you want to assault run away leaving you looking stupid.

    Also I dislike scouts, I would use the points for them for a Powerfist Vet Sgt in the b.p c.c weapon Tac squad,some more men and a combat shield for the Librarian.

    This thread's title needs to be [500] Space Marines (starter army).
    I'm surprised none of the mods have changed it.

    Anyways, your scouts need at least 7 men, and the other squads are too big. The lascannon/ML squad should only have 6 guys (and the ML scout squad). You would have enough points leftover to add a 5-man tactical squad with a lascannon.

    Here is a revised list, what do you think?

    HQ: Reclusiarch+bp+jumppack=106

    Troops:

    6xscouts(5xbolters, 1xm.l.)=88

    6xspace marines+m.l.=100

    5xspace marines+plasmagun=85

    Fast Attack:

    5xAssault Marines+2 plasma pistols=120

    Toatl=499

    Ezikiel, dont be surprised mate, it is not easey to rename threads, you have to physically move it twice to rename it, much easier to follow the guidance in the stickey and delete it

    noce list i am also a fan of the pawer fist sarge. you also are pretty well matched in any circumstance the only problem i see your arny haveing is tanks but in a 500 point battle there isnt too many tanks. if there is any tank troubles, consider a pawer fist in assalt squad. deep strike your assalt marines and get your powerfist on rear armor.

    yeah, ubt you can't charge on the first turn you deepstrike, and that tank will probably fire the hell out of you. not a good idea. I'd prefer infiltrate for this kind of tactics
