As many of you may know by the many posts I have written I have been creating a drop troop army for a month or two. Most of the things I haven’t got yet… so I can change it a bit, I really want to include more sentinel maybe at 1500pts. Anywho just asking the accomplished members of this board for advice.
i have a couple of questions .......
are the effects of improved comms cumulative??
im not very happy with my officers should i actually put something on them??
is there anything i have missed out on drastically??
this army is an extremely fluff based one however i will seriously take into account everything that is said enough with the chatter on to the list.
Close order drill
Senior officer Polonius Brecht
3 plasma guns
The relic capturers
Fast attack 150pts
2 Armageddon sentinels
as you can see im not using tanks, and i have a fair but of infantry will this type of list actually work??
any advice will be appreciated
thanx in advance
General Squad outfitting seems to be good, what is the plan for your deployment? Deepstriking all?
Without any other armor, those sentinals won't last long, but at least they have the first shot.
Your "The Extermination" command squad has nothing in it. I would give them 3 Meltas or something that would make them a threat as well.
I have only played "non-HW" guard drop trooping, where you don't put a HW in the squads, just the one special weapon. That strategy is not that effective, and your HW equipped lads should do better.
Let us know what your proposed tactics are.

meltas...... BRILIANT that means i actually get tyo use the meltas you get when you buy special weapon packs (usually just to get the bloody plasma) i want to deepstrike eveerything....... but i was thinking of keeping my sentinels on at the start to help with reserve rerolls. im worried tho because they are so important to my plan to leave them out by themselves where every weapon will be aiming for them.
is it better to have them deepstriking into my enemies lines? or have them hide and wait for the pods to drop before getting them out to help their chums?
Hmmm, can't comment much on deepstriking. I've only used it against tau. But yes, if you have two sets of improved comms you get to re-roll two failed reserve rolls each tur. But no rerolling rerolls mind.
You should split the sentinel into two separate squads. It will give you more of a tactical advantage when it comes to deployment and it makes them more survivable too because the one heavy bolter can't destroy both of them. Also your officers are fine excpet for the senior officer.
Senior offecers are a waste of points. they don't get a real bonus for being more expensvive. Remember the prime use of IG officers unlike in other armies is leadership, not killing this. So either go a straight junior officer or take a Junior with a honorifica imperilias and a power weapon. The power weapon is cheapand you will need it to give you a slight edge in the desperate counter attacks you will eventually have to make.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
First of all u hav only 2 doctrines, i would suggest taking some more like Veterans, Sharpshooter and iron discipline.
U could give the sharpshooter to your las-cannon team.
The veterans would provide you with good deepstriking units that can each field 3 special weapons aka meltas and plasmas-also this would stick with your theme of having a veteran army. The rest of your army should take heavy weapons and not deepstrike so u hav lots of firepower whilst staying away from the enemy-u could drop the sentinels then.
Iron disciplin should be give to all your officers and with 3 of them u should be able to keep your whole army within easy range. Because of the iron discipline u could drop the veteran seargents and save some points.
u know i was honestly considering iron discpline as i think it is awesome, so sweet!!! i dont really want sharpshooters tho seems to be a waste but i might try it out just to see how it goes.
