    [400] combat patrol guard

    ive been looking at my guard codex and i think i may take a guard combat patrol over my habitualy victorious tyranids for the local combat patrol league. i have yet to really play my guard so i think this league would be the perfect proving grounds for the guard.

    the list
    infantry platoon 182
    -command section
    jr officer ccw bp
    -1st squad plasma
    -2nd squad plasma
    infantry platoon 178
    -command section
    jr officer ccw bp
    -1st squad grenade launcher
    -2nd squad grenade launcher


    360 so far not sure about equipment for squads. i could use my chimera for an armoured fist, what is generaly considered more sound in low points an armored fist or an infantry platoon?

    Probably not a good idea, you've lobbed all your heavy weaps pretty much in the one basket.

    I'd say, drop your HQ and take another platoon with two squads and reduce your original platoon to two squads as well. Then strip both platoons clean of heavy weapons and special weapons. Now you've got 80 points to configure your squads how you like them. You'll end up with a good number of heavy weapons and 50 bodies and two leadership nodes.

    thanks for the advice. changed list. guard are a different kind of beast, man. i like the grenade launcher in 400 points, it seems like a slightly cheaper(slightly less effective) alternative to plasma, in very very small games anyway. can anyone suggest which heavy weapons i should take in 400 pts; heavy bolters, missile launchers, or autocannons in 400 points?

    Personally I like the chimera for the surprise value, your enemies are usually expecting rhino like transports. Something with guns seems to throw them off. A lot of people won't bring the big weapons to deal with tanks, you'll often only see S8 at the worst, many armies forgoe rockets all together. Plus you can use it to draw off beserk units and such. Very handy indeed.

    If you drop a grenade launcher squad, and a command squad, you can afford the chimera. Then pick what heavies you like and give the chimera some uprades with the left over points.

    I hate autocannons because I find them innefective. Because of our crap BS, when a shot hits you want it to make a big hole in something so for 15 points I'll take a rocket launcher every time.
