Here's my first attempt at a SW army:

    1000-point Space Wolves

    HQ: Venerable Dreadnought-155
    -Assault Cannon
    -Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon

The big Wolf Says, Smoke Launchers and Extra armour
    163 points

    HQ: Wolf Lord-109
    -Bolt Pistol
    -Power Weapon
    -2x Fenrisian Wolf

For a Cheap and efficient HQ get yourself a WGBL w/ Frostblade and Bolt Pistol
81 points, maybe toss your wolves in as well for 105 points

    Elite: x Wolf Guard-82
    Wolf Guard Leader
    -Bolter
    -Power Weapon
(Attached to Grey Hunter Pack 1)

    Wolf Guard Leader
    -Bolter
    -Power Weapon
(Attached to Grey Hunter Pack 2)

I DO reccomend you giving these guys Power Fists.

    Troop: Grey Hunter Pack 1-190
    10 Grey Hunters
    Bolters and Close Combat Weapons
    -2 Power Weapons

    Troop: Grey Hunter Pack 2-200
    10 Grey Hunters
    Bolters and Close Combat Weapons
    -2 Power Weapons

    They need to go FASTER
All Grey Hunter Packs should bring a meltagun or plasmagun, give them one, and a transport! Best swithcih one squad for 8 Blood Claws w/ 2 Powerfists, Rhino w/smoke and Extra armour 200 points. And make the other squad a 8 man bolter/plasmagun squad for firing purposes.

    Fast Attack: Land Speeder Tornado-80
    -Heavy Bolter
    -Assault Cannon

    Perfectly acceptable

    Heavy Support: Long Fang Pack-188
    Pack Leader
-Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon
    4 Long Fangs

You did not say which weaponry, but Bets weaponry for Long Fangs are one of these option:
    uber-cheap: 2 missiles, 2 Bolters
    Versatile: 4 Missiles
Strong: 2 or 3 missiles, 1 or 2 lascannons (depends on what you face)
Risky: 2 Lascannons and 2 Plasma (crack transport, shoot inhabitants.)

    All I thought up today.

All very sound ideas by Wulfbanes. Got not much to add, except that if you change the 2nd Pack into a 8-man fire support pack, you should drop the WGPL for that unit.

Instead, also with pts saved elsewhere, you could fit in another 'Speeder.

Oops, the LF's were supposed to have Missile Launchers, for dealing with tanks. Then again, how many tanks do you really need to deal with in 1000-point games?

I would, except that the Space Wolves HAVE to have one HQ unit for every 750 points of their army. So, a 1000-point army HAS to have 2 HQ units.

    Anyways, how's this now:
    HQ: Venerable Dreadnought-163
    -Assault Cannon
    -Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon
    -Smoke Launchers
    -Extra Armour

    HQ: Wolf Guard Battle Leader-81
    -Bolt Pistol
    -Frostblade
    (Attached to Blood Claws Pack)

    Elite: Wolf Guard-87
    Wolf Guard Leader
    -Bolter
    -Power Sword
    (Attached to Grey Hunter Pack)

    Wolf Guard Leader
    -Bolter
    -Power Sword
    (Attached to Blood Claws Pack)

    Troop: Grey Hunter Pack 1-212
    10 Grey Hunters
    Bolters and Close Combat Weapons
    -2 Power Weapons
    -Plasma Gun

    Troop: Blood Claw Pack-189
    8 Blood Claws
    -2 Power Fists
    Rhino Transport
    -Smoke Launchers

    Fast Attack: Land Speeder Tornado-80
    -Heavy Bolter
    -Assault Cannon

    Heavy Support: Long Fang Pack-188
    Pack Leader
-Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon
    4 Long Fangs
    -Missile Launchers

Good choices, I take it the WGBL is just there to give you some extra attacks?

    Elite: Wolf Guard-87
    Wolf Guard Leader
    -Bolter
    -Power Sword
    (Attached to Grey Hunter Pack)

Give the WG thats leading the BC a bolt pistol, he gets +1 attack when charging
Also give them both Wolf tooth necklaces. For ten points you can hit an avatar on 3+.

Another suggestion would be to give the Grey hunter WG a power fist, so they can deal with anything. Also having a bloke with 3 attacks base hitting on threes and twos most of the time is pretty awesome :w00t:

As for the long fangs, take two landspeeders with multimeltas in two separate squadrons and spend the points on something else. Maybe adding extra BC? (15 man squad with 4 power weapons/fists)
Only a few prefer liberty - the majority seek nothing more than fair masters

    Sallust, Histories
