I'm thinking about getting back into 40K and have been kicking around for a while thinking about either an armored company, witch hunters, or guard. So I am looking at the best of both worlds (AC and Guard) and am thinking about the following list:
Heroic Senior Officer (Bionics, Carapace, Refractor, Surveyor)
4 Guard: Mvox, 2 flamers, 2 melta
Chimera: Standard for all chimera in this list: Multi Laser, HB, Pintle Stubber, Searchlight
Sarg: CCW, Laspistol (Standard sarge for list)
Junior Officer (Carapace, BP, PW)
4 Guardsmen (HB, 3 flamers, vox)
2 x Squads
9 Guardsmen AC + GL, Vox
3 x Russ
Battlecannon, Hull Lascannon, Sponson HB, Pintle Stubber, Searchlight, Smoke, Mine Sweeper (186 pts ea)
3 Sentinels w/searchlight, AC
3 Sentinels w/searchlight, LasCannon
So basically I have a nice small powerful army that could probably be tweaked abit. I like the sentinel idea because then they will always start on the board and give me some good mid range anti armor ability but are fragile. The 3 russ's + 5 chimeras should be able to put out some decent fire power and can help block/protect my limited number of crunchies. I went heavy on searchlights for a theme .. basically some night fighters. Other than that the list was made in army builder but I do own the codex so if something is off let me know so I won't make the same mistake in the future.
Many thanks for the tweaking to come
the only problem with the list that I can see is that you've got basically 1 mobile troop unit, the armored fists. anything else in there is going to have problems moving to capture. with so few squads, survivability is a problem too. if you were playing for tables quarters, say, your opponent could stop you from being to able to win by killing 18 guardsmen. hell, at that, id even fire a round of anti tank weaponry at the troops squads just to speed up the process.
Are you using the new 5th Ed codex? It looks like you're basing this on an old codex.
HQ-its ok but I would drop him to a junior officer and drop the all of the wargear off of him, unless you'r still playing 4th edition rules the surveyor is kinda useless now, bionics is ok, but I dont see him going to get shot at or get into close combat much so the refractor field or the bionics is useless. For the special weapons its just fine but since they are taking a chimera drop one melta and one plasma.
Troops-to get objectives you need a few more troops, take the mechanized doctrine to give them chimeras and even take a conscipts just to block key things.
Fast Attack-good, you could also take the drop troops doctrine to deep strike the sentinels
heavy support-all good for pounding on people
the only thing that concerns me is you lack anti-tank or monsterous creatures, so take a heavy weapons teams from HQ

That might be why he is basing it off an old codex...the thread is five years old.
