    1850 Terrax Guard friendly

    Howdy Guys,
I'm still debating on what army to play as my second army, and IG is looking like the top contender at the moment. I wanted to play a specific faction of the Guard, aka one in the back of the book after the doctorines part. So, I looked at the book, and decided I liked the Terrax Guard. I chose my list trying to be fluffy, not for what was good, although I did try to make it at least competitive. I would like C&C on little things that can make it more competetive, but not things that will make it less fluffy. The only major C&C I will take is that I should take out my regular platoons of infantry totally, and put in more squads of storm troopers, because I have thought about that myself. But like comments about the basilisk, the autocannons/heavy bolters, armements of the chimeras, distribution of weapons, stuff like that I am open to critisism. Just remember, that this army is suposed to be a competetive fluff army, not a competetive army that I say is fluff because of this and that and this here....

Well, sorry, but only the HQ command section can take support squads, not the platoons command sections. Grenadiers doctrine means your stormtroopers with chimera can be taken as troops, no need to use up elite slots. Pintle mounted heavy stubbers on the Chimeras might be very useful. Anyway seems a solid list to me, a bit unbalanced towards the anti tank side, are you goin to meet many armored\meq opponents ?

Well, I don't know what MEq means, so please explain. But yes, alot of tanks, one guys army runs 6 tanks and 6 LST's inside of 1850 points. What could I do with the points that I lost from teh fire support squads inside the infantry platoons to increase my anti-troop capacity?

Hem, now that i think to it better.... did you notice that carapace armour doctrine is not optional? you must buy carapace armour for all and every model in your list. This means a lot of points.
Meq = Marine equivalent, anything with 3+ save is meq.
Your list might be done as you wrote it only if you drop carapace doctrine and take heavy weapons platoons instead. This way the two grenadier squads fill your two troops requirement, one of the platoon commands takes the four infantry squads and the other platoon command with the two heavy bolter squads makes an heavy weapons platoon.
Obviously if you change doctrines they will be no more Terrax guards.

Well, of course, I don't want the basic guardsmen, lets face it, they don't do much good. I want the weapons they can have. So, can I just have my HQ with support squads, storm troopers for my troops, and then a heavy support platoon; then pay the carapace armor cost only on the HQ platoon and the heavy support platoon, since the storm troopers already have it?

Yes, it can be done, but you still need heavy weapons doctrine, they are restricted troops.

    Heh

He could also scrap his heavy weapons for some mortars, that will help even out the odds against hordies and multiple barrage is friggin wonderful sometimes.

...Edit... by heavy weapons i meant your second squad of 2 lascannons, and your 3 heavy bolters. you cant honestly be proud of having that many bs3 shots, are you? Its a foolish idea. Thats why god invented Hardened Vets!
    Quick! Wile 'es ded!
