    ultramarines(1500) list placed (sorry)

    im pretty new to 40k, and ive come up with this 1500 pt army list so that i wont spend money on units i dont need, and thats why i posted this here. i need some input and some advice so that i can make final revisions to this list and so i know what to buy. i have some experience with making lists from playin whfb empire for a year and a half but i have hardly any basis to make a 40k list cause the rules are quite different :wacko:
    any suggestions are very, very welcome and appreciated

    Once again i apologize for the mix up
    One of your best bets with a dreadnaught is an assault cannon.

    The Razorback can only hold 6 marines.

    You may want to reconsider giving all your tactical squads a heavy weapon each. If they need to move then the heavies can't shoot, there fore they are somewhat wasted points on those turns. A good idea is to have some squads set as fire support with heavy weapons, and other squads to move and shoot and assault and they would not have heavy weapons.

    You might want to get a predator annihilator with Twin linked lascannons and heavy bolter side sponsons.

    You might want to get a devastator squad with 4 heavy weapons. Most people go with 4 missile launchers, I like to do that, but also, 2 plasma cannons and 2 heavy bolters.

    I strongly recommend reading Chaosbrynn's tacticas in the regular Space Marine Army Forum. That's all I have for now.

    Oh, yeah, a chaplain is a great choice for HQ, so is a librarian. Those psychic abilities are nice, as are the force weapon. Lots of people give the chaplain a jump pack and put him with the assault squad. A VERY good fast attack choice are the Land Speeder Tornadoes with Assault Cannons and Heavy Bolters. THey are only 80 pts each. A GREAT value.

    (ur right, they are cheaper than and almost the same as the captain i was gonna put in this list. i didnt read much of the chappies till u said somethin bout em)

    One thing to keep in mind is your devastator squad will take a lot of fire. as a precaution you may want to put two more marines in that squad. Essentially what you will be doing is giving each missile launcher 2 wounds (Do you understand what I mean by that?) To get the points for these 2 more marines, you could trim one terminator out. NOT one with an assault cannon!

    About the rhino, they are great, but they draw fire. Put Smoke launchers on it. Set it up out of LOS. ROUND1 drive it 12" toward enemy (limiting LOS from BIG GUNS as much as possible) and POP SMOKE (this makes all penetrating hits, glancing hits). ROUND2 drive 12" toward enemy and disembark. Everybody SHOOT this round!! ROUND3 Shoot, Assault, Rinse. Repeat as necessary.

    For your chappie, spend 1 point more and get him a bolt pistol. This gives you ONE MORE ATTACK in close combat with your best man on the field! I would also trim points from something to give him Terminator Honors too. This ALSO give him ONE MORE ATTACK, plus his leadership goes to 10. Maybe only put one more in your dev squad to free up these points.

    Some might tell you to drop the pred for more points to give your Sgts in Tactical i and in the Assault squad Terminator HOnors, Power Fist and Bolt Pistol. That is up to you. LOTS of people run that set up. The Power Fist is devastating but strikes last. Your style of play may be to hit faster with lots of power weapons...They're cheaper too. I didn't do the math, but that might free up points for a Landspeeder.

    only real comment i have is to drop 1 from tac squads II and III and put those 2 guys in squad I, thus giving u a full combat squad.

    and for the love of god, give the chaplain a pistol so he gets an extra attack!

    thats a tastey list, have you thought of putting in tiguris, the Ultramarines Librarian, hes hardcore, double the range on all his powers n a force weapon to boot, not to mention all the other stuff your average librarian has, although, i wouldnt chuck the chaplain, i wouldnt go anywhere with otu one in my ultramarines force.

    You might consider changing the power weapons in tac. squad 1 and in the assault squad to power fists. It will make these squads even more effective. Other than that, I really like list.

    Just saying, if anyone is going to offer suggestions like "Upgrade soandso weapon" that going to cost more than 5 points, its really thoughtful to also make a suggestion as to where those points are coming from. Like the guy who wanted to add 2 marines to the Dev squad by taking out a termie.

    I like the second list alot, I'd hate to have to fight it with my Imperial Fists.
