    2,115 pts Penal Legion

Okay guys. Here is the first rough draught of my fluffy Penal Legion I am starting. The basic feel I want for this army is no tanks (except for two hellhounds) and lots of troops. I have also found that I really like sentinels (I am no newbie to the Guard after all.. I have a whole army of Krieg Death Korps) so there will be loads of them too.
However, this army is still quite unusual for a Guard army but I want to try something new and interesting.

Let me hear your thoughts. Any ideas are welcome. Remember that this is still a rough draught. I am considering adding lots of vox-casters to make sure these scum don't run!

For fluff sake, I'd drop some of the heavy weapons and get more conscripts.

    Otherwise, very nice idea.

    2,115 Penal Legion

Overall I like the idea, and form of your list, though I think it might be better to post a 2,000 point version, as it’s easier to compare strengths and weakness with other lists then.

As a Penal Battalion will still be led by conventional officers, I would consider using Independent Commisars as well, especially for the Conscripts.

Looking at your list, I figure that along with the usual IG fire base, maybe you intend to march forward with your platoons, and vets, to take table quarters etc, supported by the Sentinels and Hellhounds.

With this in mind, you might be better off losing the Heavy Bolters and just having 2 squads per Platoon. I like the 4x Gren’ Launchers.

Lose 10 Conscripts, add a Commisar.

As you mentioned, the Vox Caster approach could be useful.

How will you support the Flamer Sentinels? Definitely give them Smoke. Maybe you could make the Command Platoon Sentinels, 3x Multi Lasers, and add a third Hellhound, which still gives you the flame attack.

Why do the Officers have Bolt Pistols? The rest of their squads have longer ranged weapons, so give them Bolters instead.

The Hardened Veteran squad is extremely vulnerable to assault, as it needs to get real close to use its firearms. It can’t fight, so why bother with a Power Fist. I can imagine you’ll Infiltrate it, to support the advancing troops. However, with such a low save, they’re going to get blown away, or mashed in combat. Admittedly if you deploy it so it’s immediately supported by the Scouting flamer Sentinels, this will much improve their survival chances, but the Vet’s range ability will be severely compromised.

    Hope this helps

    Lord Ramon
